Thread: Made it!

    Made it!

Made it to retirement today folks (apologies for a second retirement thread in as many weeks..) age 56 and
33 years of shift work in the oil industry are just tying up nicely with a house move in a couple of weeks
Felt a bit odd when the alarm didn't go off at 04:30!

Well done. Now make sure you keep that free time for your own use, as I am sure Mes Goat has a few ideas on managing your timetable

Welcome to retirement, 3 yrs earlier than me! You'll wonder how you ever found time to go to work if you have any hobbies etc.

Well done David; you can now expect to busier than you ever have been. I don't suppose you're contemplating a trip to Berlin to celebrate your freedom; I was chatting with a fellow forum member last night about a proper Berlin GTG - there are at least three of us now?

Do you plan on buying yourself a retirement watch?

You're soon going to wonder how you ever had time to go to work though - happens to us all

I managed it to 50 before packing it in , but I was never too keen on work anyway.

....and two years earlier than me. I don't find I have enough time because I bought a puppy (now nearly three years old)!

All the best for a long and happy retirement

Congrats, best career move you'll ever make!

I managed it at 52 and I`ve never missed work once..........apart from the financial rewards it's a vastly over-rated activity.

Congratulations, I'm very envious. At 50 I'm just having to reboot my career as the previous one had a bit of a stumble. And with a 4yo I need to carry on earning for a while.

    Congratulations

i have been retired now for 1 week and spend most of it redecorating the utility room - and an excellent job done (if I do say so myself). It was a treat not have to rush because I was running out of time. Plus today had the added benefit of listening to TMS.

Tomorrow is a day off as I am playing golf.

Its a tough job, but someone has to do it.

    I retired last week at 52 .
wife had a stroke last year at 49 which really affected me and I was off work for 6 months with Depression ,stress and anxiety .
Whilst off work I decided not to go back as life is too short !
love being with the Wife everyday and we are keeping active by going to the gym and cycling mainly .
to be honest we don't know where the time goes !
We have had to adjust our spending due to massive drop in income but we are not worried .
Also to celebrate I have had the call to say my 5712/1a has arrived awaiting collection after a year wait !!
    Enjoy it OP .

I retired and 3 months later started a part time job because I was getting cabin fever. 5 years later I'm still working 2 or 3 days a week

Check out if any of your local gyms have some openings. Thank me later ;)

PS I have better chances of being retired than doing it myself

Congratulations. A recent surprise addition to the family ensures my plan for retirement in the next few years are scuppered, might make it by 60 if I can squirrel away enough.

I wonder if the £30k a year figure mentioned in another retirement thread is enough for a couple to get by comfortably.
It must depend on your circumstances and lifestyle. My brother and his partner are probably on less than that but own their own home and have a wonderful life - gardening, reading, cooking and friends are at the heart of it. At the start, their LiLo (low income, low outgoings) lifestyle was not a choice, but soon became their preference.
