    Festival of Speed.....which watch?

Off to Goodwood for the Festival of Speed. Which watch ? The obvious choice is the Daytona, which I will wear. But the Speedie started life timing cars....any other top choices ?
They should be able to time the hillclimb, at a minimum.
Actually, a Patek 5170 springs to mind, but I don't seem to have one to hand.

You can't see both the start and the finish of the hillclimb from the same point. So you can't time it.

Besides, I believe they already have a means of timing the cars.

I've been thinking the same, almost started a thread too! I'll be going on the Sunday and will probably wear the Monaco, hoping it might help my case when I try and obtain some discount at the Tag Heuer stand!

I've not got any motorsport related watches in the collection
But if you see a fat Scotsman with a SBBN013 on a chunky leather strap that is probably going to be me

Last year when the Monza had been announced but not released they were offering them to preorder at £3,600 or 20% discount.

Not sure if any of the car lovers on here watch any of the lads on YouTube who are making a career from it? But Archie Hamilton and Seb Delaney were both given new Tag's and flown business class to stay on the Tag Heuer yacht in Monaco and watch the Monaco GP! Not a bad touch!

One of them got a Heuer Autavia gifted. Would have been quite pleased with that!

I'm assuming there may be some tie in at Goodwood or promotion from them as the car youtubers usually get there.

Or the IWC Porsche design (I love IWC and Porsche - but the two together - shiver!)

No idea there was anything watch related there! Could be dangerous :)

I will be wearing my Sub because... I like it

Didn't IWC launch some new models at Goodwood earlier this year ? Some company did. Clearly didn't make much impression on me.
BTW: one of the key sponsors is Cartier. Watches and cars, a natural match.

I've been offered pretty much the same price from my AD, almost a year on and it's still sat in their window! I'm expecting it to go on sale soon!

It's nothing going to do with me, and I have no connection to or knowledge of the seller, but there is a nice Breitling Premier on sales corner at the moment.

It's not a popular watch, I would think you'll be able to get a much better deal at some stage.

I've had two Monza calibre 36 models and really liked the look of this one until I handled it. It's too big and too shiny for me. If they'd made it 40mm instead of 42 I'd probably be wearing one now.

I think Montblanc are Goodwood's timing partner this year.

Earlier this afternoon I gave some thought to which watch I shall wear there on Friday and settled on my Speedmaster as it's not been there before.

    tuppence worth

    monaco or monza,even a silverstone

    gotta go with tag heuer

    heritage and all that

    enjoy whatever you wear

A chrono of some sort would be a good choice. Or something car related - a Chopard Mille Miglia or one of those 45 degree drivers watches or something...

Although I suspect that the only thing anyone will be looking at on your wrist will be your pass rather than your watch.

  22. #22
I think I'll be going with a chronograph.

It'll be handy for timing how long it takes to queue to get in/out of the car park.

Sale you say? 2.9k Fraser Hart, Bluewater last Saturday.

I'd wear my 60's Heuer Carrera if I were going but unfortunately, I'm not :(

Eberhard & Co Tazio Nuvolari would be an apt choice:

If I were going, I would wear my Navitimer 806, especially as it has the name of a 1960s FII driver (Warwick Banks) engraved on the caseback. I don't know why.

Tried the Monza on myself at last year's F.O.S.
Loved it but think they should have PVD'd the Crown and Pushers too.
Saw a BNIB for £3000 recently and there's been One sat in the Metro Centre for nearly 12 months now.

As already stated Mont Blanc have taken over from Tag Heuer this year, whether this is just in terms of the Drivers Club sponsorship or whether this also includes timing of the event I'm not sure.
We've been for the last Five Years and Tag have always had a presence there, last year's was notably lower key though, no free Champs on the Friday !

Giving it a miss this year, nothing to do with Tag Heuer though !

We live a mile away, and it has stopped raining , but there is no sign of sun. So far, so normal.walking to the show in a tick, might actually wear my Cellini.......after all, why not. Where's the harm.

If your heading there today can you let me know if there's any Watch stuff going on? I can't see there being a Tag Heuer stand if Mont Blanc are timing partners.

I'm going to hazard a wild guess here, but perhaps he owned it?

He did own it, but under what circumstances I am unsure. He is still with us but did not respond to an email I sent enquiring about this watch.
I believe he shares our affinity with watches and owned several nice pieces.
I am hoping that it was a racing trophy, but maybe I will never find out. I don't want to pester him, I know what it's like being pestered.

Just saw a Ferrari Daytona; very classy. Probably costs about the same as the Paul Newman Daytona watch. But very red.

One good thing from Goodwood today, I had a look at a BLNR and a DaytonaC and realised I am much happier with my Sub
