Longest time you've had a watch?

I may be cheating a bit, but interested to know if anybody has kept a watch for decades?
Having a sort out and found my first ever watch - I think it was given to me for my first day at school (age of 5). Too small now - but still works and never serviced!
    Can anybody top 50yrs ownership?

Mentioned it before but I've got a good age to watch ownership ratio on one of mine. Was given to me a as a baby (christening gift) and I turned 40 in January.

A manual wind and it still works

That's great to have one for so long.

I bought the Longines Legend Diver as soon as it came out, so that's nearly 10 years ago now.

9 years for me. Pretty hard to compete with 50 years since I'm not even 30 yet!

I've now owned my Omega Geneve Dynamic for 45 years... You wouldn't think so to look at it, would you?

That's very nice - still having the christening present.

My second watch, (first one was a wristwatch which ran wild when worn on the wrist).

I've owned it now for 59 years. Will never part with it.
    Best Regards - Peter

My Rolex Turnograph. Bought on my birthday in 1957, so 60 years now, followed by an Omega Geneve Dynamic which is a mere 46 years of ownership.

That's really nice. I can't get the 'back' picture to load but I assume it is a GSTP. Do you mind if I ask how it came to you 59 years ago?

I know GSTPs are fairly common, but I think they are quite underrated, especially if serviced and in good condition, and of course they all have a story.

Longest time you've had a watch?

DRSD bought second hand for £270 in 1982. Still on my wrist as a daily wearer. It doesn't like not being worn.... Keeps time to within 2 secs per day, unless it's hot.....then loses a few more.

Sounds knackered mate, I'll give you your money back

Great watch. Has the value increase in them effected your wearing over the years?

Rolex precision purchased new in 1968 and sold 50 years later, no emotional attachment and never missed it.

Thanks for the offer. Of course, I'll give it serious thought.

I thought long and hard about continuing to wear it daily (indeed started a thread on that topic last year), and have decided to carry on doing so. Barring time away for service, it's been with me all that time.....and has brought much joy/rekindled memories.

I have also thought about selling it and replacing it with a couple of nice watches to pass to my grandsons, but guess they can always sell it and share the cash if they want....when the time comes.

I have the original bracelet too, but that has just been refinished and languishes in a box now.

Longest time I had a watch

First one is a Bravingtons Renown, bought for me by my father whilst I was still at school, it was either when I moved to grammar school at 11 or when I was 15. Currently with the watchbloke for repair/service, there may even be a date inside!
Second one is a Tissot pr516 bought for me when I was 21, again by my parents.
Third one is my Rolex datejust bought by me in 1986.
As I'm now 65 that makes it 50-54 years for no 1, 44 years for no 2 and 31 years for no3.
    Cheers, John B4

Only 9 years for GMTiiC which is the first decent watch I bought.........

Does an old Fossil watch my girlfriend (now wife) bought me in circa 1998 count? I got a new battery put in it a few months ago for old times sake, can't wear it any more as the bracelet is far too big (lost a bit of weight since my teens!).

    Yes, a GSTP.

My parents bought it for me one Birthday. Well, about a month after my birthday to be precise. They'd bought me a wristwatch originally for my birthday but I just couldn't wear it - it would randomly gain and/or loose time quite significantly. This was put down at the time to 'electricity in my wrist' by the jeweller as the wristwatch kept excellent time when not being worn. The jeweller took the wristwatch back and refunded Dad, so he bought me the pocket watch via mail order from an ad he'd seen in the paper, (Army & Navy Stores, I think).

Carried it all through my school days, right up to me starting work in 1965 when I bought a Keinzle wristwatch from a guy I worked with. I accidentally smashed that against a Dummy Upright at work after only six months so went back to the GSTP for another year after which I bought a Talis Automatic Divers watch through mail order.

Many watches later I still have the GSTP and wore it occasionally just for fun and nostalgia, (remembering my childhood days laying under the sheets shining a torch at it and marvelling at the glow of the lume when I turned the torch off, then falling asleep to it's ticking under my pillow ); though last year the mainspring broke so it now doesn't run.
    Best Regards - Peter

That's a great story, thanks. Ah, the happy days when we gave kids radium to put under their pillows at night ;).

If you did want to get it running again, John Senior did an amazing job on mine for a reasonable price, following a recommendation from a forum member.

Longest time you've had a watch?

Bought new by me in 1989...

Recently found it at the back of a shelf with original box, papers and receipt.l popped in a new battery & it's ticking away nicely.

But it's not going to get much wrist time.

I think I bought this in about 1993/4. I also had to rebuy a 60s boys Timex I had as a kid, just for nostalgia.

My original Omega Seamaster was my longest owned watch, at about 6 years.
Then I was introduced to TZ, and a watch rarely lasts here for any more than a few months

I still occasionally wear my dad's 1964 Omega Constellation which he bought new.

I inherited it in 1981 so have had it for 36 years. It is now 53 years old.

The Swatch Alabama SCN105, which I got when I was in my teens. So close on 25 years or so?

It's on a blue plastic strap now, which suits it better.

26 years - Datejust. Like an idiot I sold it to fund a more "exciting" watch. I now have my Dad's which he bought new in the early seventies.

Hi All, first post from a long time lurker. Love threads like this, must appeal to the nostalgic in me. Mine is a 10 year old B&R Demineur, like it's owner time has battered it a little round the edges but will never let it go as was wearing it when my son was born.

Will post a fuller intro when I have more time with some pics of my small collection.

I can't beat 50 years I'm afraid. I'd love to have my first watch, a Smiths boy's watch given to me in about 1967, but some oik stole it from my pocket on a school trip to the swimming baths a couple of years later.

I've had my Rotary Sea Captain since 1984 and a Rolex GMT Master since 1986.

Tag Heuer Professional for about 20 years.

Stolen last week in a burglary at the house while we were on holiday along with a Citizen Eco-Drive and a Russian watch I was going to give my nephew.

(The good stuff was in the safe that they didn't/couldn't get in to)

I have a Casio calculator watch which must be about 36 years old and a Swatch Jelly which is around 35 years old, both worn by me as a kid. I may well have others from then, I don't really let things go.

Longest time you've had a watch?

Bought this new in London in 1981 so 36 years now. Just had its first service by Simon Freese. Jubilee bracelet is still pretty good but more comfy on leather.

I bought this new in September 1976, and have been wearing it ever since (on & off).
Sorry about the old picture, but it still looks the same!

    Wedding watch

15 years, SMP 300 which was a wedding present from my Wife. I can't get on with wearing rings or any other jewelry that isn't functional in fact!
