As the current models rise in price, the older models follow.
For less than £8.5k you could have the SDC which is to my mind a much better watch.
What on earth is happening?
Was looking at a jewellers site and they had a seadweller on there at £8k. Bloody hell I thought they're trying it on so just had a look at the Watchfinder site and they have 5 seadweller 16600's from 2005 to 2010 and the prices are from just under 6k up to £8.5k.
When did they get so expensive and why is there a £2.5k difference between a 2005 and a 2010.
Please can someone educate me as I thought they were doing around the £4k/£4.5 mark.
Am i missing something?
Neil

I had the chance to get a nice 1660 at this price early in 2016 for less than 8.5k
Aren't the WF models at £8.5k NOS?

I still regret sending my 1992 tritium dialed SD back a few years ago because the clasp was cr@p.
How much? £4,000!!!!!
I've got a 2008-2009 16600 that I find the bracelet really good on compared to the six digit ref nos! I had a SD4000 for less than 24 hours, not for me, but I do find that with most modern Rolex! We are all different thank God..
I had no issue with the bracelet but the clasp just didn't inspire confidence. That strange groove that the bar fits into made it easy for the clasp to spring open all by itself.
High demand for the best watches out there
Have 2 brand new in the safe for the kids studies funds among other things
Looks to be a few nice UK SD's on eBay for mid 5k's, I recently bought an LV off eBay and did a face to face deal with a great seller. You might get a better deal going this route.
Mark Worthington have two unworn 16600's in, both just under £10K.
They offered me £5K for my Z serial SD two months ago.
Rolex SS watch market is now FOMO driven. People will buy at any price because prices can only go up, forever.
We'll see.
Good 16600 sets can still be found for under £5,000 and at that level offer excellent value.
Compare with the prevailing market for contemporary 16710 GMTs and 16610s, and reflect just how few SeaDwellers were sold.

£3k is too low. I offer £3,010
Ignoring the 16610LV, do you really have a hot market for 16610s in the UK? In the USA the three models that seem the most under priced are the 16610LB, 40mm Explorer 2, and the 16600. People have attempted to pump the Explorer 2 market with the 3186 movement, and been somewhat successful - leaving the two most classic Rolex divers the distinctly "least hot" references available.
Everything at the right price of course, but the 16610 black is indeed a steady banker. Historically it was always better than the 16710 GMT but that has reversed somewhat of late. It is interesting that the 14060, traditionally a little lame and sold in far fewer numbers than the 16610, has almost closed the gap on its big brother.
I still cannot commercially see the Explorer II in the same league as the other sports models. That should elicit the usual protest from the "I juggle diamond drill bits for a living and my Exp II bezel is still perfect" club...
My 16600 is going absolutely nowhere.

Wanted - Damasko DC57
Mike has had it for sale for a while now, I know because I have looked at that watch about 50 times over the last few weeks..
So tempted for my first Rolex and a trusted seller, I have read many a time "buy the seller"...
He also has an Explorer II which is more likely to become my first Rolex..

For Ed White owners who sold for £3k to £4k a few years back, one has just been auctioned in Cheshire and although it wasn't the best example it did have original bracelet and box and papers and went for £12.9k - that's just under £16k with fees etc added.
Is that crazy money or a reflection of where the vintage Speedmaster market is going. Come on Simon, hurry up I want mine back.
Ouch!

"Too late, too late" will be the cry when the man with the bargains has passed you by
All the previous generation Sports are in shorter supply and keener priced than ever before with only the 16610 classic sub being the easiest to find on a budget largely due to the sheer volume of them sold compared to no dates and sea dwellers. That said even they are healthier than ever and will continue to grow and prove to be a very shrewd investment.
