Thread: New Steinhart GMT Batman

  1. #51
I agree it doesnt look like a BLNR, if you are going to copy a watch at least get your details right and make it as close as possible

It barely qualifies as a homage at all!

Love that lume shot from the OP link.

Couldn't live with the hand set though. Appears too chunky for my liking, something thinner, more refined would've been better.

It's out of stock on their website. Waiting list system being copied from Rolex - despicable behaviour

Surely you would simply immobilise the thief with a batarang and retrieve your watch?

    Not everyone can.

Which is more offensive - a good quality homage worn by someone who likes, appreciates and wears it for what it is, or someone who wears the real one, ostentatiously and on account of its brand and value?

I think humility is the key here.

Of course, that's exactly what I did when he tried to take off with my SD.
I handed it to him, then proceeded to batter the excrement out of him. Retrieved the SD and left him to lick his wounds.

If this had an all-black bezel would we be having this conversation?

For me (and others here) it isn't a 'copy' of the Rolex. How can it when it's made of different materials, has different hands, a date in a different place and uses different fonts. It's like saying a Fiesta is a copy of a Mercedes because they're both cars.

It's a lovely watch with good spec at a great price. I'd wear it because of what it is, not what someone thinks it might be trying to rip-off.

I've actually sold two Zenos because I thought they were too close to the Rolex so I'm happier with watches that are inspired by, rather than copies of, others.

I'd actually prefer it with an all black bezel! I wonder if the black ceramic GMT bezel they have for sale in the accessories section for the Ocean One fits this?

It does. It's the same case and same bezel (other than steel v titanium)

Some people are making themselves look a bit silly on this thread.

Seriously to a non WIS what's likely to be considered more embarrassing - paying a few hundred pounds for a high quality watch that you like the look of (but happens to be inspired by a much more expensive brand) or shelling out £7k for a stainless steel watch where a large proportion of the price you are paying is purely for 5 letters on the dial?

For the record I don't think owning either watch is embarrassing if it's been purchased for the right reasons. I don't own a Steinhart (or a Rolex) and I get why some people don't like homages but to say owning one is embarrassing is a bit snobby and probably indicates you're buying Rolex for the wrong reasons.

Interesting to see how Watch B can have so many identifiable differences to Watch A and still be so beholden to it

For me, it's the bezel that acts as a 'singifier'
Watch people that give a shit are obviously going to get their synapses buzzing as soon as they see it.
Most normal people won't give a shit.
Its just one fugly wrist jangler against another.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

I may of missed the end of the steinhart storm but I think if and sorry to say it if Eddie here, mkii , tiger concept or any other micro brand brought out their own incarnation of this watch nooone would be batting an eyelid to its roots - queues would be out the door. Heck the sewills diver is a superbly made looking homage nobody is quibbling over its DNA there . I just puzzle off the steinhart condemnation

Seems some of these are suffering the same issue that cropped up in the past with the Vintage GMT - misaligned GMT hand on delivery:

That, was just posted up on a Steinhart FB group this morning from a disappointed owner. I can't see how a GMT hand could slip in transit (otherwise normal wear on the wrist would surely slip the hand) - so QC has let them down. Ridiculous, given how many other GMTs suffered from this.

I post this, wearing an Ocean 1 Vintage Red - so I'm not anti-Steinhart but surely 1 minute per watch would check that the hands align before posting it out!

I'd do it for them at an average of 15 secs per watch.

Just got mine, and it seems the GMT hand is out of alignment too, although not as bad as in the previous example. The bigger problem is that the dial, rehaut, and movement are all loose within the case and move around. When I tried setting it, I thought I was seeing things when the dial seemed to move as well. Quite disappointing, as I'm generally a fan of Steinhart.

Sorry to hear this as I'm a fan too. I've heard decent things about their CS so hopefully sorted with minimal pain. This is making me think about holding fire when their new smaller range appears.

    New Steinhart GMT Batman

As a slight diversion, and for the Massdrop fans out there, this offering from Invicta.

The extra bonus: there's no GMT hand to be out of alignment!
Oh, and the BL and NR appear to be the less-than-usual way around.
