    Computer help please.

Hi, I'm finding when I log on here, Breitlingsource, e-bay etc, I'm getting 'connection not secure' and no little green padlock. I've checked my Pay-Pal & that's ok, anything I can do to remedy please, I'm a complete computer idiot really. I've gone on to the Mozilla troubleshooting page, but not really helpful, tried other things, all to no avail. Don't know if it's relevant, but I've received no Windows updates since Nov' '16.
    Any help/advice appreciated.
    Neal.

I get this on Chrome too. There is a move to get all sites secured with https connections. These messages are part of that strategy from Google and Mozilla. On Chrome, there is an i icon to the left of the URL you will see some info on this including a Learn More link which takes you to this page:

    https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95617

There is nothing wrong with your computer. This is something that many people will push site owners to adopt.

Not connected with the current question but you should have received quite a few updates - every month - including a couple of vital security ones and the big Creators' Edition update. I suggest you ensure you are allowing the updates to come through.

The new Firefox browser update has been showing this for ages. It's only on forums and the like so I'm not too bothered. eBay and the rest are showing secured though.

    I'm using Mac OS 10.11.

It's because you are connected directly to the server in my basement. I noticed you weren't receiving optimal performance from your ISP so I channeled you over to my 'free' service. Everything is under control...nothing to worry about. Just continue about your business.

Thanks for the replies folks, have successfully downloaded all the missing updates thanks to Glamdrings link, much appreciated. Will I just have to live with the 'insecure' sites, or is there something I can do to remedy this situation. In other words, should I refrain from purchasing an item off e-bay with this situation in place?

we had some issues with the latest chrome updates - basically chrome has gone from being a very easy to use accepting browser to now being a very secure unstrusting browser of many websites and certificate authorities
(they stopped trusting the ones they thought were dodgy and dished out certificates too easily, and rightly so but that meant many legit sites are being flagged as unsafe)

ebay should come up as secure. Try going to this link:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/

That is a direct link to the secure version of eBay. If ebay is not coming up as secure, there is a different problem at play.

For other sites, try replacing http:// with https:// If there is a secure version of the site, it will open correctly. There are still many sites which have not updated to support https though. For those sites you have to decide on a case by case basis what you should do.

Hi Phil, I have e-bay main page as secure, but as soon as I click on an item I lose the green padlock and the https//: at the beginning.

I see the same thing here. Once you're in an item, clicking on add to basket or buy takes you to an https link. I wonder if the reason ebay's auction pages aren't secure is because people can put all sorts of custom stuff into the auction page which would break a secure page.

    Neal.
