Blue is the 'historic' colour, because for years, that was the only choice. But a white dial version was made in the first years of production in the late 70s at the request of one customer. It then stayed dormant until 2012, when White became available as a general option.
I wouldn't choose the blue because it is less easy to read, but it remains the favourite. For now.

When I saw both in person side by side I preferred the white. I think because the date aperture was less jarring.

Blue (to contrast with your AP RO 15202)

Sadly - it will be one or the other.

Must admit leaning toward the 15202. I prefer the aesthetics on the AP and it was the 'first' of Genta's famous steel sports watch duo.

Prices being what they are, I am likely to buy used I think - I can't see a 15202 doing much other than losing value if bought new with no discount.

I have a while to think on it - I doubt my turn at the Patek AD will come up for at least another year / 18 months.

Something very pleasing about no seconds hand too.

Patek do make some super crisp Nautilus white dials, the 5726 is fantastic.

I find the white dial in a different class. So much better looking.

I have both and white is superior imo. It’s crisp and it’s not really white more a silvery white.

Lucky man. And I think 'crisp' is a good description of the white dial. Somehow it seems more modern, fresher. But then what could be more personal than a choice of colour.

No contest for me - Blue.

I don't really like white dialled watches in general.

If one gets past the WIS instinct that one is meant to think 'blue' because it's the classic Nautilus colour, the white has a lot going for it. I do agree with the comment that there's something a bit fresher about it.

I love kaiserphoenix's solution to this dilemma - classy.

I would happily buy either given the opportunity.

The white is very crisp and fresh which puts it just ahead of the blue in my opinion.

I tried both on 2 week ago and was severely underwhelmed by both, couldn’t see what all the excitement is about but the blue was better imo

At least you don’t have to worry too much about AP’s sometimes poor timekeeping.
It's just a matter of time...

  23. #123
I got my blue way before prices got crazy and waiting time for a 5711 was only several weeks. I had that feeling that when the white dial came out, the blue dial suddenly became hard to acquire (i may be wrong though).

No matter how hard i try, its blue for me... beautiful and closest to the original

White every time. It makes the best of that superbly clear dial.

I think blue is more universal and goes with more clothes options.

Since that recent Mr Porter video I’ve been looking into the nautilus and I agree they are stunning watches, but am I missing something with the price?

If you are anything like me then, you are currently missing the cash in the bank to pay for one ;)

    Nautilus: Blue or white dial?

    Blue also for me.

The white is very nice and crisp but I want to add a white 116500 Daytona at some point.

Crazy money now but I love it and would prob only change for the 5712 (I still cant decide which one I prefer, change my mind daily but think the 5164 will be my Patek of choice with complication)

Only blue for me, especially given the blue seems to change tones with different lighting.

The white face for me is ugly. I have heard various people think the nautilus is an ugly watch overall and that if it wasn't made by PP, question who would actually want one! Only with the white face do I agree with their comments.

Somehow, I don't think you have ever seen the white face 5711. And in reality it's a sort of 'silvery' colour, not plain white.

    Looks very white to me

Still prefer blue over white. Although recently seeing and handling the mock of a white face version changed the impression I had developed in my mind just by looking at the pictures. It is very nice in white too, looks very crisp and changes a bit depending on conditions.

Definitely blue. It's just a lovely colour, and I love how it catches the light. I usually really like a white dial, but it just seems a bit soulless next to the blue one. Of course, I've not seen on in the flesh, so I might be way off and it's just a picture problem.

One of my grails, no doubt.

Guys, you're approaching this the wrong way! We're going to collect Mrs cmcm3's first Patek tomorrow - a 5712 Nautilus. You've got to get creative with these things!

In terms of the original question, its blue for me ever since Alanski compared the white one to a roller door on a garage...

Would that be Mrs cmcm3’s 5712 that the bracelet will just happen to be adjusted to fit your wrist size....

I've got my one already, but if a hypothetical watch geek were trying to justify a watch purchase from a joint account one might consider going that route and investing in some good quality bracelet sizing kit to go with it...

Still blue for me. Have been on the list for a 5711 at Mallorys in Bath for a couple of years and have now risen to the heady heights of sixth on their pecking order. Nice people to deal with, but will still be a long time coming at their rate of supply. One or two a year at most.
