I want to give it another go, but I will bore my tits off if I start from the beginning again.
Where should I start watching? When does it start getting good? How much plot can I afford to miss at the beginning?

    Just not my cuppa really.

Someone once told me that it reflected real life, when I mentioned that the sex just seems to be dropped in for titillation value...

I had to smile at that, as it's mostly about dead people walking and Dragons in an imaginary world!

All seemed a bit silly and gratuitous really, but whatever floats one's boat.

I had a look to see what all the fuss was about, against my better judgement as I don't like fantasy type stuff.

    I was right.......pony.

I think it's drawn out now and not as good
But I'll still end up watching next series

    Update

    I'm about 8 Eps in.

It's a bit like the sopranos, only with a bigger cast. And not set in new Jersey.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

I have tried to watch the tv series twice, both times I got to the middle of season 3 and lost interest. This is perplexing as I have read all the books from start to finish 3 times and absolutely love them.

    Well done Dave.

It seems odd to have to explain rhyming slang because everyone I speak to understands it.

Lots of people use the term Berk but don't understand the real meaning.

    Don't explain it!!!

I agree with you I was initially board with it when the first series started and gave up, almost immediately.

However, I recently downloaded every series and watched it all over about a 4/5 week period..

It's the best thing I ever did, massively complex but well worth it..can't wait for the next series it's so addictive.

There's a 2 hour special on at 9am tonight on Atlantic - catch up of all the main bits I think.

I've been re watching the odd episode as my partner has got into it and I'm amazed at how much I actually missed first time round.

I had never watched it and one of the guys at work was raving about the upcoming series 5 a couple of years ago.
He insisted I watch it from the beginning and defied me not to be hooked after three episodes...
So I gave it a try.

Before series five had started I had watched 40 hours in about two weeks and was completely besotted with it.
I watched it ALL again before series six and have just finished watching series six again in readiness for seven.
    It really is that good.

  35. #85
They're repeating the last series on the run-up to the new one, so I watched the last couple of episodes again. It was a cracking end to the season - obviously The Battle of the Bastards was great, then the final episode consisted of some great action combined with a lot of set-up storylines for S8. It never ceases to surprise me how wiling they are kill off major characters. Great telly.

    Bring it on!

An old friend plays one of the characters that has been in it since day 1. When he flew out to Ireland to start filming, his explanation to us was that it was that it was basically the Sopranos set in medieval times. Pretty accurate.

The other half has fired up season 6 again as precursor to the new series and I have to say my enthusiasm for it has waned. I now think that the acting is thread thin and I can barely suspend disbelief long enough to get past the opening credits. But I’m sure I’ll haul my carcass in front of a screen for the new season. I’m weak like that….

Any chance of you giving any more clues? Always interesting to know people's famous links! The girl who plays Arya Stark used to live in the same city as me (Bath). Saw her a few times out shopping with her mum!

    Just dusting off series three.

I will say one thing, the acting isn't that bad.

Credit where credit is due, they are giving British actors an awful lot of work, even if they are killing off their characters with frightening frequency
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Well it's back, watch the first episode of the new season last night and it's all coming together nicely.
That cameo though, along with his mate Shaun from 'This is England' felt very shoehorned in, just jarred with me, very tacky

Just looked it up. It does look pretty bad. We're not the only ones unimpressed either:

Awful stuff. However the opening scene and more great swaearing from The Hound made up for it.

The Ed scene was the only bad part in an otherwise good catch-up episode.

Nothing against cameo performances but at least have some class and insist on heavy makeup. Being that recognisable just jars.

Bit odd, wasn't it. Unless we're going to see those characters again, it's jarringly incongruous for GoT, which normally never nods to the real world.
