Vegetarian comes from a very old word which could be roughly translated as "piss-poor hunter".

I'm a vegetarian. I make exceptions for beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish, and their derived products such as milk, cheese and eggs, because they are tasty and nutritious.

But other than those, I don't consume any animal products.

    Horse? Dog? Spiders? Nope.

Well actually, I might have eaten some horse in 2013. But that was accidental. Also, I had a kangaroo burger one time, but only because I thought it might be tasty.

Not a spiralizer, but I often prepare a crispy diced salad of carrot, capsicum, spring onion and radish using one of those kitchen mandolin things. I used to be a bit too relaxed about using the protective guard and once I didn't notice that it had taken the tip of my finger off until blood was spurting everywhere. I'm a bit more careful with it now.

Been barbecuing a lot of trout and eating with salad recently. My wife makes a healthy coleslaw to go with it. Even my fussy kids like it.

I did think about getting one of those. I noticed that the Amazon "frequently bought with this" recommendation list included a pair of blade-resistant gloves.

Let's just say the spiralizer looked like it would be better.

Some great ideas guys, please keep them coming.

I just remembered a couple of salads which I like a lot, but somehow they totally slipped my mind as I have not done them for ages..

Both are very simple, first one - grated Diakon (Japanese radish, must be really fresh/firm) dressed with cold pressed unfiltered sunflower oil, squeeze of lemon (you can use rice or cider vinegar) and salt to taste (no pepper, unless you happened to have white one).

And the second one made of finely chopped tomatoes, (deseeded) cucumbers, onions and pomegranate seeds, dressed with EVOO and squeeze of lemon with salt and pepper to taste. I usually put coriander but seen it dressed with parsley and even both.

I use an oyster glove when using mine. Luckily I had one anyway as they are more expensive than the bloody mandolin (I have one of the professional jobbies).

I prefer oatly to normal milk. The barista one froths up much more easily for lattes. Daughter used to have dairy intolerance so had alpro yoghurts and waitrose also do good coconut ones. They also do dairy free ice creams both from coconut and soy which are surprisingly good.

Salad recipe from Spain was leaves, tuna, olives and chick peas. Nice if you like that sort of thing.
