Congratulations Jase , wear that bad boy in good health!!

For some time now Ive been lucky enough to have had or have some great watches, expensive, 'cheap' I get pleasure from them all, but, Ive often thought I don't have 'my' watch, a watch that the kids might remember as their dads watch, like I remember my dads, maybe its not to be but I decided that I would at least try to have one thats my main watch, good for most situations, whenever these questions come up on the forum there is usually a common theme as to what that watch means for those that have them, the ubiquitous SeaDweller, a cliche perhaps but with good reason, Ive never been a proper Rolex fanboy, I of course admire them from a horological point of view, and as a die hard dive watch fan I loved the classic look, they are the masters of marketing after all but they have got two things so right, a great business model and also a really good product to back it up. I have had a Rolex before, a 1989 'transitional' 5513 Submariner which was a great watch but perhaps a bit too vintage for a practical everyday wearer.
So, my quest was for a 'beater' 16600 SD, my budget meant that the coveted 'full set' was getting further out of reach as months go on, I wasn't looking to pay that premium, my WTB was posted as such, I was looking for a average, worn but respectable watch that I could wear everyday and not be bothered too much about everyday knocks and scrapes, I was expecting a service dial, replacement insert etc. I wanted a older one with lug holes, as many have pointed out before, the last of the 'tool' 16600 before they went bling with expensive ceramic bezels etc.
This is where it went a bit wrong.
I didn't get any replies to the WTB and I wasn't surprised, there were several wtb posted in recent months and as time went on I wasn't sure it would happen for me, there were a couple in the USA about my budget but the logistics and import charges would have negated the savings on cost.
So, a few weeks ago I had a PM from James and he said he was thinking of letting his loose SD go after he got back off his holiday, I said I was interested and then there was then a period of a week or two of limited ( completely understandable ) communication before we agreed a sale, some photos were sent but it wasn't really easy to tell too much from them but as i said, my expectations for what I was looking for were not high and indeed I almost wanted something a bit rough around the edges as expected of a everyday wearer.
What actually came was a very pleasant surprise, its a 1993 S serial, original tritium dial , hands, bezel pip in immaculate condition! Hard to believe its 24 years old, I have much newer watch in worse condition, the bracelet was a little small but a couple of £20 links from Watchfinder has sorted that out.
So Ive joined the SD club and Im very pleased indeed. Thank you James ( JPCain86 )

Very nice indeed. Congratulations, some nice pics there as well.
Glad you're happy with the watch Jason. The wife has already spent a chunk on a last minute holiday to Majorca this week 🙈.
I need to bring a watch in quick before the rest goes.
Lovely looking sd there jason. Tritium and lug holes = perfection :)
Quite simply one of the best watches ever made.
Congrats Jason, very nice indeed.
Looks far too pretty to wear. Stick it in the safe and watch it build up the kids' university fund
In all seriousness though, it's an absolute peach. Why would you need to wear anything else? The more I see of the 16600 SD, the more I like, but I'm always late to the party
That's is just lovely. Well done Jason and enjoy the watch.
Congratulations Jason on the great find. A good condition 16600 at a reasonable price is almost impossible these days! Enjoy in good health!
Fabulous watch.
Congrats!

Looks great congrats
Well done Jason. Fabulous watch.
I've just got my 5th 16600, this one is staying, incredible watches.
Great watch; the 16600 is the only watch I ever get pangs of regret about selling.
Lovely watch Jason, not a better Rolex out there in my opinion 😀
I'd never sell mine, on the point about a watch being symbolic that your kids will recognise, my wee boy Harry sticks mine on now and again, although it's hanging off his wrist 😂😂
I totally get what you mean.
Congratulations on joining the SD club. I have the more blingy SD4K which suits my purposes better but I fully appreciate the 16600.
Excellnt choice!

I definitely give this the thumbs-up
Far nicer than the current Rolex offerings; finding a really top-notch example is the hard part but you've managed that. Also goes to show that the watch itself is far more important than the box, papers, hang tag, anchor........the watch is the only bit that matters!
Enjoy!
Paul
Very beautiful, enjoy!
Great catch wear it with pride and carefree abandonment in good health

Congrats, though that Rolex style is not mine, but each to it's own.
I agree with your first statement Paul - Condition of the watch is the most important aspect.
However, depending on individuals, it may not the only bit that matters, especially for collectors who are after fullsets and are willing to pay premiums (sometimes very significant) for these, especially for older Rolexes from those days where watch owners throw away all the accessories after putting the watch on the wrist.
Very nice. In fact it looks bloody mint and in great shape, a lot better than the new owner.
BTW Just make sure this one is a keeper
