have you had a look at the landmark trust?
I've been trawling the internet for a couple of weeks now looking for a luxury lodge or cabin for a week or 2 in December.
Highlands preferable but don't mind Galloway etc.
I'm not having a lot of joy. I'm after fairly isolated and not part of a caravan park for lodges.
I've found a few but they just look like wood clad mobile homes. Either that or I'm finding a lot of eco-lodge type things in stone. Meh.
Does anyone have any suggestions of decent cabins that sleep from 2 - 4?

Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Loch Insh lodges are quite nice and is part of the Loch Inch Watersports centre. The chalets/cabins are very nice and there's lots to do in the Aviemore area.
No connection to the business but I have known that area and the Watersports centre for the past 20+ years, going back to before the chalets were built. My in-laws literally lived down the road from there.
Superb log chalets overlooking scenic Loch Insh and the mountains. Set in 14 acres of woodlands in the Glenfeshie foothills of the Cairngorms National Park, the site borders Insh Marshes RSPB reserve and half a mile of beach frontage.
General comments about all the log chalets:
High open ceilings with open plan Kitchen/Living/Dining areas. The bright modern kitchens are fully equipped with hob, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer dishwasher and all nessesary cooking equipment. Open verandas to enjoy the lochside views. BBQ's and garden chairs provided along with linen and towels.
For details of individual chalets and STB rating visit Loch Insh website at www.lochinsh.com
Activites to do on site which are free between the hours of 8.30am-10.00am and 4.00-5.30pm between April and August (min two night stay.)
Sailing
Windsurfing
Canadian Canoeing
Kayaking
Bank Fishing
Other activities which can be done on site but are not free:
Wildlife Boat tours (April-September)
Bike hire
Archery
Orienteering
2 Adventure Play parks
Dry slope Skiing and Boarding
River Trips in Kayaks or Canadians.
3kms of Nature trails
Half a mile of Beach
14 acre site.
Logierait lodges near Pitlochry are nice. Fantastic location although I wouldn't describe the lodges as luxury or 5 star, they are well stocked, good furnishings and very comfortable. Website below.

We often stayed at this one below. Secluded, luxury and very nice indeed.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! I've bookmarked them all for a proper nose at home.
Maybe worth having a look on Airbnb as well, they may have something to suit.
Stuart
Cloud Cuckoo Lodge in Dumfries & Galloway.
It's not the highlands, but still in the sticks and you could spend plenty of time there and not know you weren't hundreds of miles away. The cabin/lodge is great and the folk that run it are amazing. We've been three times now. First time was a couple of weeks before Christmas and I'd emailed just to check they were okay with us taking a baby. We arrived to find the place decorated, fairly lights, carols playing on the radio, hot, fresh baked bread wrapped in a towel on the table, a bottle of wine waiting and they'd arranged an assortment of baby toys and gear around the living room. That was a pretty magical weekend.
Ah that's great uriel.. I'd got that place shortlisted.
It might be ideal actually as the couple of weeks we're going coincides with the geminids meteor shower so Galloway dark skies would be just the ticket. :)
Galloway is beautiful. Check out scaur water, really beautiful place with Andy Goldsworthy sculptures rotting back into nature
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

This is very nice, on the shore of Loch Lomond.

We've stayed there a number of times. Quality accommodation in the grounds of the Hotel and some very nice dining if the thought of cooking doesn't appeal.
Very nice pool, Spa with roof top hot pool and various other things as well.
A solid 9/10 from us.
Rich.
The National Trust For Scotland own some very nice holiday lets.

If you can make it to the islands then Blue Reef Cottages

Easier to get to then Lochend Chalets - opt for the Luxury A Frame Lodges

I've not been yet but Eagle's Crag or Ghillie's Rest at Alladale

Another vote for Cameron House although I actually prefer the Cameron Lodges (the Carrick) to the ones in the hotel itself. Shuttle bus to the hotel if required.

Thumbs up from me too.

I've bookmarked all suggestions, which have been great. Should have enough for a few trips and some long weekends :-)
Stayed in the main house here - http://www.holidayardnamurchan.co.uk/ a few years back, fantastic
Added a couple of properties since so a good choice for different sized groups
Hours drive to Fort William so stock up on the way there (local shop only good for the basics).
Reminds me that we should go back.
How isolated do you want to be?
This lodge is 8 miles from the nearest tarmac road: http://www.sutherlandestates.com/hol...ommodation.htm Although I've done the track in a "normal" car it's easier with a 4x4.
Sleeping 9 it may be bigger than you are looking for, but Ben Armine Lodge is fantastic if you really want to get away from it all. The deer come down from the hills overnight and graze right outside the lodge - in September the roaring during the rut makes it something special.
For those of a more adventurous nature there's a bothy reachable about another 5 miles or so up the glen along the pony track.
Great thread giving much food for thought.
Loch monzievaird are nice. Not the highlands but great base location.
The forestry commission also have chalet type accommodation across the UK, with a couple of sites in Scotland.
I haven't stayed in them, so cant comment on quality etc but did notice them when i was doing a search for holiday accommodation myself

Another vote for Eagle Bray. If you like the location, it's perfect, if not, you don't need to leave the lovely cabin!
