I would say there is only one choice, seiko MM300.
Looking for some recommendations on a diver watch for under £1000.
Quite like the look of Oris but seem just over budget. Would ideally like an automatic.
Already own a Longines and an Omega on its way so would be good to add a different brand

Squale. Think they do some nice ones if you don't mind them not being on a bracelet.
Vintage Seiko. Get the right piece and you'll not lose money either.

For this price I would go with a Longines Hydrocinquest (I know you may have one) but I have seen the chrono version in the sales for bang on budget. Failing that the Oris are indeed nice. For a budget option, I have a Seiko Sumo which, apart from its size, is very hard to fault.
Plenty if options.

With respect, that's the wrong question. Ask instead which is the best diver under £1500, and the answer is the Seiko MM300, by a country mile.
I wouldn't rule out the Hydroconquest but would be nice to go with a different brand just because...
Will take a look at the suggestions below. Sorry should state I want it on a bracelet ideally too

Longines Legend Diver?
An MM300 is the business mind you but not often less than a grand nowadays.
Sumo is a very good watch, and for around $450 a steal.

You may have thought about it already and dismissed it, but what about getting rid of longines and then use 1k plus the money from the longines sale to fund the MM300 or something else?

I'm pretty sure they can be picked up for under a grand, mine was and it's fitted with sapphire crystal but minus the (shite) bracelet.
I too think a second hand MM300 is a good call. I paid £900 in Nov last year so it can be done.
An alternative would be a second hand Sinn U1? These are under a grand on the used market I believe.
Precista PRS3 and change left to put towards the next!

I thought the MM300 bracelet was kack too but been wearing it the last few days, I quite like it now I have gave it some wrist time..
Prices for the MM300 seem to be on the rise, the old 001 has been discontinued and the diashield MM300 is a price hike on the 001.
Unfortunately the Longines holds significant sentimental value, I bought it for my 21st birthday and was my first "proper" watch, also my Dad took me to get it who passed away 5 years ago.
Will check the Precista and other suggestions properly when I am not on my mobile.

Very similar styling from the Oris.
It's the Oris Aquis I have had my eye on. I like the Tudor black bay also and the Precista is very similar with the hand. Back home soon so I'll be all over it
Do you actually want to splash a grand? Or is that an absolute limit?

Good shout in my humble opinion.
All of the SAR series are good quality watches with their own distinctive look.
Never see others wearing them but they do stand out.
I have a longines flagship automatic chronograph and a omega speedster pro on the way. Also have a Raymond Weil Maestro that I always forget I have (can't sell it was given to me).
I want to splash a grand, could possibly push to another £200, but didnt really want to as I wanted to start saving for a Breitling after I purchased a diver
1200 you are easily in Sinn U1 territory. Well worth a look at.

Sinn U1 gets my vote too easily had for that money with change in good used condition I've yet to see another in the wild and it wears so comfortably.

Of the first two choices the Oris is far more the tool watch and the hydro is more likely to go with a suit and be a bit more flexible. I hear not so good stories about the Lume (Longine) and I think some of the Precista's though very good looking weren't great for lume either. The Oris and Seiko Padi stand out for me, however if you want a wear with anything I could see the appeal of the hydro.
If you go vintage/semi-vintage there are plenty of choices:
A good selection of Seikos including 6105, 6309/6306, 7549 Tuna
Heuer/Tag Heuer 1000 series, wide choice of models including midsize which sit nicely under a cuff and full size. Avoid tacky two-tone and worn black-coated, auto is the pick of the bunch.
CWC military diver- your £1000 will give you plenty of change even from an exceptionally good issued example.
There are even a couple of Omega choices; Seamaster Professionals are hard to come by under a grand these days unless very tatty (best avoided) but you should still find a pre-Bond model, although the full size ones especially are creeping up. But my hot tip £1000 vintage dive watch is the f300hz Omega electronic tuning fork model. Rare, cool, and only last year I picked up a near-NOS example for less than £900.
I'd have to beg to differ as far as my PRS-82 is concerned.

I agree, i have had 2 82's and the lume is excellent
Wasn't keen on the Sinn U1 at first glance but after seeing pictures on the wrist it really does look great.
UTS I'm not a fan.
Didn't really want to go vintage/seenu vintage. If I were to focus that route I would go for a 70's sea master which is a different look for what I'm after. But thank you for the suggestions as I will take a look at Tag also

I need to get out over the weekend to take a look at the Oris, Sinn, and Longines. Guessing not going to have much luck with the Precista though!
The Sinn u1 is never done justice in photos maybe why you don't see many in the wild it's the only watch I've ever sold and instantly regretted so bought again I've learnt my lesson this one is staying.
it's also the only watch I prefer on a rubber strap the bracelet is nice and I've worn it that way for a bit but there's something about it on the rubber with clasp I can't put my finger on it's just right.
Perhaps you could offer a coffee to a member to meet up so you can see one, if you were local to me Id have no problems with that
Good idea I'm too far as well sadly but I'm sure there are folks nearby who'd be happy for a chat and coffee/beer who have one or more of the watches you're keen on.
Just the Precista I will have trouble finding. Would be good if someone is local to Surrey/London area.
