Thread: Nomos decision - stick or twist?

Nomos decision - stick or twist?

I've currently got a 36mm Nomos Club, with sapphire back:

I may have the chance to "upgrade" to a Minimatik though:

Is it worth the extra cash, in your opinion?

I definitely prefer the case (and lugs) on the Minimatik. I also prefer the movement, slightly.

I prefer the dial on the Club, though.

    Stick or twist?

The bit that you look at most says 'stick' to me.

I agree with Mr Cuta, the dial is the thing you see and admire the most on a watch imho, so it that's the part you prefer on the Club stick with it. I prefer the club too btw.

I'd agree with that, and looks are subjective so I'd stick with the one you like the dial and hands of.
For me personally, I love everything about the Club so I'd very much tend toward keeping that.

Yes, stick with the Club. If the spare cash is burning a hole in your pocket, there are plenty of other watches.

For what my opinion's worth - stick.
The dial is what you like on the Club and that's what you seem to like most between the two watches.
Now,if the choice was between the Club and the Neomatik Atlantik, which I hope to see sometime this year, that might well be different, although you would have to want a dark dial and I think you like white.

Agree with all the above. It's ok liking everything else about the watch but it's the dial that gets 90%+ of the look-in.

You only live once - twist. However no-lume is surprising difficult to get used to.

Seems like you've made up your mind to stick. Based on looks alone I'd say flip it

Sideways move; we all do it from time to time. We usually regret it.

I personally would 'twist' provided cost to change is sensible. I had a Club 701 and whilst it was a very nice watch the relatively thick bezel started to look a little bland to me. Those new minimatiks are gorgeous and I like the slimmer bezel, the hands and the colour details. All much more interesting than the 701 IMO. I went from a 701 to a 1601 vintage Datejust by the way.

Not wishing to go off topic but this thread has got me fancying another Nomos with the new neomatik calibre. Minimatik, Orion or Metro would be on the short list. Serious question, are new Nomos models likely to be more or less expensive to the UK consumer after Brexit?

I'm an architect and I say stick with the club. If I were a thin wristed architect, I would have one in my collection. The dial and handset are splendid.

To balance out the discussion, personally I would struggle with the thicker lugs and case on the club, but then I also prefer the minimatic dial.

If you are asking the question, you are looking for a change - and if you gave an itch, sooner or later you will want to scratch it.

    Twist from me

Maybe the exchange rate will recover after the deal is done but in my view/experence the Nomos pricing policy is terrible and the fixed exchange rate they apply is outside historical extremes (especially the USD). Only economical way I think is to buy from a European Jeweller and have them ship to UK - however after brexit there is no guarantee of a customs union and who knows how that will affect the total cost.

Sounds like another good reason for a long weekend in Berlin.

My initial impression of the Minimatik is that of a self-regarding fashion/design statement, uncertain of its gender and which won't age well.
But then I've only given it a moments consideration, which is about the same as anyone who might see you wearing it.

I have a soft spot for the club. The club date is perfect in my view. Especially with the new blue dial.

    I keep searching for a reasonably-priced 1601 that I'm happy with; it's a long journey.

Late to the thread, but I'd definitely go for the Minimatik. I prefer every aspect of the watch, and the dial is just brilliant. Buy it, wear to it a Kraftwerk gig and feel like the coolest dude alive.
