That's a fantastic gesture Christian. Chapeau.
I bought this last year, absolutely new, at full price. I wore it a few times, it still looks impeccable:
https://www.junghans.de/en/junghans-...el/detail.html
Given the recent tragic events, I'd like to organize a raffle for it. Please make a payment, any payment, to one of the charities associated with Grenfell (on justgiving, etc). There's no need too prove that you've made the payment. Don't think anybody here would claim participation without paying. The raffle will end next Saturday at 8pm. I'll add some pics later today.
Later edit. Der Amf came with a very good choice (many thanks!), which basically doubles your contribution: https://secure.thebiggive.org.uk/gre...2f2f7-46835501.
Good luck!
Christian

That's a fantastic gesture Christian. Chapeau.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Could someone recommend a particular charity please? I think I saw a billboard saying the Evening Standard is running one.
Amazing Christian, well done. I respect the fact you've purposefully not stipulated a minimum donation, but for a watch of that value I wouldn't expect to donate anything less than a tenner for a go in the raffle. Now done - £10 to Evening Standard Disposessed fund.
EDIT: snippet from a Guardian article yesterday:
Giving money:
Many will have lost everything after the tragic fire and will be beginning to rebuild. Kensington and Chelsea council has asked the British Red Cross to help co-ordinate an appeal to support those affected and it has started an appeal to raise money.
Mike Adamson, the chief executive of the British Red Cross, said: “The people living in Grenfell Tower have suffered an unimaginable tragedy. Our hearts go out to all those who have lost so much.”
He added: “We are now launching this national appeal, together with Kensington and Chelsea council, to support those people who have lost everything, so they can receive financial help as soon as possible.”
Various websites are also calling for donations, including the London Evening Standard Dispossessed fund, which has already raised over £1m. JustGiving also has a page specifically for firefighters.
Accommodation
People took to social media after the fire on Wednesday to offer up their homes to those who were affected.
However, the council has advised that accommodation is no longer required. Shelter has said that anyone affected and in need of free housing advice can call its London office on 0344 515 1540.

A wonderful gesture, OP. Thank you.
Thanks so much for doing this, Christian. I've donated to the same fund as Andy and I'm afraid that have to agree with him about the proof - sad to say that there was at least one member who posted intentions in Laura's first fundraising thread but never got round to making a donation.

Very generous of you. I've made my donation and PM'd the receipt. Let's hope you inspire lots of donations.
Donated to BRC. What a fantastic idea to raise money for such a tragic event.
Donation made, great gesture and please keep this to the top of watch talk for maximum coverage.
If proof is required I can add the reference number here.
***Edit***
No bother, donation reference number D264080125 £20 donated via the just giving website (London Community Foundation)

great work Christian, donated!
Nice one Christian! Donated and in case my name would come up, I would like you to keep the watch or dispose it as you see fit, ideally sell it on this fine forum and donate the proceeds to the charity/ies of your choice, thanks again!

Donated. Proof available.
Bad form pledging to a charitable appeal and not stumping up. Just don't pledge in the first place.
Well done, Wooster.
Donation made.
Donation reference no is: IPP00042431
A very respectable organisation I occasionally work for in West London are specifically recommending the appeal being run by the Kensington and Chelsea foundation - "local, well established, and well placed to meet the ongoing needs". I just donated £25. At the moment all donations to that appeal on theBigGive.org.uk are being "matched" (ie doubled)

Many thanks for all your contributions! Slowly, slowly it looks like a good amount is being gathered for this cause.
Here are a few pics of the watch (shamelessly stolen from the www, as my pics are usually rubbish):
As for the proof of payment... I was and still am reluctant to ask for it. It is for me hard to imagine that not making your contribution is even possible in the given circumstances. But I will bow to the local wisdom and kindly ask further contributors to this raffle to also add some proof. Many thanks, and sorry for asking for this.
All the best,
Christian
PS: VDG, very generous of you! Should you win it, I'll have to send it to you though and then it's up to you how you'd like to proceed with it :)
I think the slow start was down to the sunny weekend :) I'm sure that now we're into a new week there will be more action, especially in the evenings
Excellent idea Chris and I've gone to the Kensington & Chelsea foundation as they are matching - £20 becomes £45 with gift aid.

Good show by Wooster; and some serious money beginning to tot up.
This calls for a selfless act involving a consolation prize.
And what more selfless can you get than giving someone else's watch away?
With the blessing of fundraising Colossus Dave O'Sullivan, may I add to the pot as a second prize:
The one and only genuine limited edition Rotary Chavitimer.
This watch, limited to an edition of 4 million, is the horological equivalent of that mandatory item of north Manchester uniform; the fake Burberry cap.
This actual watch is used but vgc. It's main purpose in recent years is fundraising; it has been offered on more than one occasion and has attracted generous bids, the last time from the aforementioned D O'S. He has generously allowed me to add it to Wooster's splendid initative, and Wooster has agreed to draw a second place number when the big event concludes.
To be fair, this watch is no Junghans, but for the money it is a handsome watch, a good size, accurate quartz movement, and an ideal way to find out if you could live with a Navitimer. UK/Europe postage on me via Royal Mail 1st class.
WOW the generosity of the great british public is astounding! Well done chaps.
Thanks to Der Amf's link, a £20 donation became a £45 contribution.

I am always amazed at the Human Spirit when such tragedies occur. We've had a toiletries/clothing collection at work (massive number of donations) and have arranged a volunteering day next Friday (over subscribed).
I have donated £20 to the cause. Thanks for prompting this fund raising Christian.
Christian, you're a geezer.
I think it's only reasonable to ask for proof.
I have run a few charity things in the past on here, and I have also found there are people on here who do pledge but don't cough up when it comes to it.
All the best
Dave
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Bugger! Donated too soon! If I had seen Der Amf's link it would have doubled my amount!

Please throw me into the raffle, too

Just to remind TZUKers that if you scroll back to Der Amf's post there is a link that, if you donate via it, will double the amount received by the fund.
This deserves a sunny morning bump. 4 days have passed, and there are still 4 days to go
Using pen, paper, and averages from disclosed sums to approximate the undisclosed sums, so far about £900 has been raised, including the doubling, from 29 donations.
It was this thread that prompted me to do my SC thread auctioning a Patek loupe that animalone had given me...and the very impressive opening bid prompted animalone to magic up another couple PP loupes.... So the £750 raised on that thread is directly thanks to this thread :)

If anyone is needing a bit of inspiration to join in this raffle, have a look at this auction that just finished on the Sales Corner:], which £750 raised for three Patek loupes.
Yesterday I was looking at the specs for this Junghans - the movement is a Perseux 7001, which allows the watch to be seriously thin: just 7.3mm.
I was chatting to a friend about charitable donations and, by way of contrast to some very underwhelming collection he had seen, I told him about Wooster giving away a watch with an MRSP of over a grand. He asked if he could enter the raffle, and Christian gave the thumbs up.
So this is my friend B's entry. He donated to the same funds-matching appeal with gift aid, so his £20 was turned into another £45, and he emailed me a photo of the screen showing the receipt.
Great gesture. Donation duly made.
