Thread: Davosa Ternos Professional GMT

    Davosa Ternos Professional GMT

I have such great faith in our capacity to have a mature discussion without resorting to name calling or pointless back and forth, that I feel safe posting this.
    Who am I kidding?:-)
First of all, let me make one thing clear- this is a copy. Not a homage.
    Any differences are purely unintentional!

Having said that it is a well made copy.
    I like the 42mm size.
I know some people already complain that the newer case makes it bigger and 42mm makes it even bigger.
But this to me is the perfect size and something Rolex can consider.
Bracelet is very average in quality.
Case is very well finished as are the dials, hands and bezel.
Lume is not outstanding but above average.
    Some pics

Copy, or homage, they exist and as far as either go, that does look a good one Rajen. The blue looks slightly darker than on the watch it's copying, but mainly just the light?

I would like to see Rolex to do a 42mm Sub and sure it would sell, as maybe a 38mm one would too. Pretty much everyone covered then!

Is the bezel on these ceramic? Doesn't have the depth of colour of the Rolex.

It is ceramic. Not much difference on the shade of blue or the 'depth'!pfnthe bezel.
    A quick side by side

Yeah you're right. I was just going from memory of trying one on a year ago. Guess it's just a slightly different font. I like the brushed bracelet too. Makes it a bit more low key if that makes sense.

Good looking watch. How is the magnification on the cyclops?

Hope this gives you an idea

That's more like it, usually on things like Steinhart and Marcello C they are nothing more than an ornament.

I'd agree my nettuno 3 was like binoculars in reverse and the pics of steinhart reflect the same

I think I prefer the davosa!! Very quickly went off the BLNR personally thanks to the odd hue of blue, the reflective nature of the dial/crystal and therefore the lack of contrast on the blue GMT hand. I picked up a bi-metal GMT and much prefer it; personal taste that's all.

In the past I've had both the Steinhart and Marcello C and while they are both well made the easiest bit to get right (cyclops) was a real let down.

At the risk of getting some "blah blah" comment..............

I think it looks better than that Rolex Ceramic GMT model with the black and blue bezel

    Blah,blah....kiddin
The only thing that better is the size.
IRL, very identical watches barring size.
Only one is an original though.
On a side note, exceptional service from Davosa USA.
I am hardly a demanding customer but there was a slight glitch with online ordering.
They were very helpful including the owner And making sure to make you feel that your business was wanted and appreciated.
Very different experience form Steinhart in that sense.

    You are indeed right.
The lugs ARE slimmer but partly to accommodate the bigger bracelet size.
The overall case is a little less squarish compared to Rolex but not as much as slimness of lugs would suggest.
    How that makes sense.

I like these, the Marcello and steinharts they are all more in my price range. Its only since I have been lurking on watch forums that I have been reluctant to pick one up, until then the issue of copy / homage had never bothered me.

I should care less and just scratch that particular itch, nice pick up.

Not directly comparable with the Steinhart which has a 500 metre depth rating and is of course Titanium - which begs the question, why is the Davosa twice the price of the Steinhart?
If you buy a Davosa is it an homage (copy) of the BLNR or of the Steinhart? Or are they both copying the Squale 30 Atmos Horizon GMT? Or the TAG WAZ211A? Or the Parnis Chinese version?

All getting very complicated these days. I wonder what the next popular colour combination is going to be?

To answer your serious and non serious questions:

This is a copy of Rolex BLNR, not a homage or a copy of anything else.
There have been other Rolex GMT colors- black, cole,Pepsi, root beer to name a few.
Some of these have been copied.
This came with a 30% discount from Davosa which substantially decimated the price difference.
Davosa is a different operation from Steinhart.
The quality is more in line with the Squale Ceramica GMT which I have and that was priced around $750 if I remember correctly.
In summary Steinhart,Squale and Davosa are all in the same boat.
I feel Squale and Davosa score a little in quality department and having a Davosa USA makes buying simpler and more attractive.

    Very nice indeed.

I can never understand why Steinhart put up with low magnification cyclopes on their Ocean 1s.
