watch for 88 year old dad

visited my 88 year old dad in his care home today.....he's not in a great way and complained (amongst many things !) that he cannot read his watch anymore.

He has a nice s/s Omega and a few Seiko dress watches and his brief is as follows:-

    1. must be quartz as he hardly moves any more so auto no good and he will forget to wind up
    2. bigger than what he is used to (say 34mm and very thin) BUT cannot be massive as he has very thin wrists now
    3. needs to have a very clear dial and preferably Arabic numerals
    4. he likes a leather strap
    5. Budget - he said up to £200
    6. ideally from somewhere where I can buy it, take it to him and return it when he says "no good" !!

maybe something like this, but smaller:

any ideas & links would be appreciated !

I bought dad one of those Lumibrite Lorus military style watches. It was waterproof (excellent for care homes!) and easily read by "older" eyes, even in the middle of the night when you need to "go"!

May be too small but worth a look at peanuts price. I gave it to his carer when dad "left"!

With all due respect in a situation like this, wouldn't it better going into a town centre locally and having a good look through all the displays. Clearly dial layout and strap type etc are more important here than the usual brand considerations and you can always handle the returns personally if needs be.

As crazy as it sounds and not often recommended on here, it might be worth having a look through the Argos catalogue to see what they have.

What Wallasey said. Failing that a citizen eco drive maybe in titanium . They do some very simple clear dials as well as the overfussy ones.

I think this Seko fits the bill nicely: https://www.jurawatches.co.uk/collec...gg711p9-so-398

Could buy elsewhere if concerned about returns.

I'd second one of the Mondaine railway watches, doesn't have the Arabic numerals but very legible.

My 80 year old mum took well to a CWC G10 while in hospital recently. She has continued to wear it even after leaving hospital. It works well for her.

I just noticed that the Amazon link I posted isn't eligible for free delivery, this one is.

http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/2829835/ would be worth a look as well. Eco Drive is useful and the dial is legible

A quick google images search for "quartz Swatch white black" revealed some very practical and super legible options

    Lorus

My dad now 89 loves his white face on canvas strap

It has a back light too

Paid about £20 for it off here

    You'll get change from £30

Buy a few for that and let him choose

Offered my dad various upgrades but he loves the backlight for in the night lol

I must admit I have recently found my simple eco drive very easy to read.
