Looks great and looks like it's benefited from the clean up. What a difference!
A good few weeks ago someone on SCWF got in touch and made me (he made me Mum!:)) have a go at reluming his Citizen dial which was in a rather sorry state. I was hesitant because I wanted to do a good job and not let him down. Anyway with moving and then not moving and other things going on, I got a bit delayed on top of that.
I attempted to sort it out within a day of me being back in my flat, so here are a few shots. Ivor was extremely patient anyway, but I didn't want it to be any longer before showing something.
Here is how it arrived.
On inspection with my microscope I could see a bit of gunk there!
Same area but this time with the lume removed and a clean up of the dial which left quite a difference.
Most lume plots came away scott-free with their paint intact, which was pleasing but took a lot of time to remove the lume carefully.
Next was to get the relume done, this is quite tricky, but here are the results.
I'll hopefully be able to show the hands completed soon.

Yeah, you made that person very happy, they'll enjoy their watch much more now.
Cheers both. Hands next which I've primed and will be getting sprayed once cured. Hoping not to screw that up as masking them can be tricky not to damage the paint as they're two tone.
That looks fantastic! Quality job as far as I can see.
You must have a very steady hand - that looks a lovely piece of work :)
Will we get to see the finished article?
Good work Bodo.
Cheers for the comments. Yeh I will update with when the watch is completed. I'd certainly like to see it on a working watch.
Thanks for posting this - it's a proper job and really good work!
Good work.
Transforms that dial.
Mitch
Cheers again. I just want to try some more that need it now! :)
Echo what everyone else had said. Nice job!

Excellent job mate, wish I had your skill.
Forgot I should update this thread.
Finally got the hands done.
Missing photos of the original condition, but if you can imagine the ones on the left looking black... with rotten lume, hardly any white showing, very poor grubby condition, that's what these used to be like on the right, which at this point had had a spray or two of white and black to determine what the best approach would be. The ones that were untouched on the left were slightly bettered with a touch of paint, relumed and sent back to the owner.
The hands have been cleaned and slightly sanded down before being airbrushed, masked to her the two tone effect and then varnished. With a matte acrylic relume done to finish
One of the first coats I did that was OK with, but that since changed. Gives you an idea, though of how I progressed.
Somewhat happier.
Relumed.
Better than they were anyway!?
Would have liked to do a better line between the two tone on the minute hand, but a bit of an imperfection aint never hurt nobody. Although it does niggle but as they were sent as spares to practice with I'm happy and so is the owner as he now has a very nice spare set of hands to use. :)
