I prefer the Mark II. I think the dial looks less cluttered.

    Not in the know!!??

I don't know a great deal about them so can't give an advice based on personal knowledge however purely on a second opinion on looks alone then the MKII for me aswell?

The condition alone looks of greater quality than the other but that could be picture quality?

    Good luck and enjoy!

The 2 watches in the links are only as an example.
Thr Mark II is serviced 3 years ago bu ferrie schweizer. That is "the" vintage specialist in the Netherlands. He has also overhauled the case and the watc was only worn once in a while afterwards.
The Mark iv commes from the first owner, was never polished and in know with the watchmaker for a complete service. The case still has it's factory finisch.
Pricewise they cost exact the same.

In anyway thx for the comments and good advice. Seems the Mark II is more wanted.

The Mk II is cleaner looking, slimmer and more like the Speedie Pro with the 861 movement inside.
But the Mk IV is more convenient (auto, date, central minutes) and the 1040 is a marvel of a movement, and the watch has more presence.

I will go against the grain here and say the IV. The II looks like it wanted to be a Speede pro, the IV like it was meant to be that way.

    Red face

i'm surprised how polarised the replies are but I think you definitely have an answer if resale is your priority.

Resale is not my priority. I'm suprised too that most answer Mark II.
Therefor i have decided to go for the mark IV. Also because he just returns from the watchmaker where he had a service with genuine Ref 176.009 parts. A new glass is fitted, alle gaskets are renewed, pushhers are replaced , new spring etc etc . The thing that made me decide is the fact she is never polished and factory finish is still present and she comes from the first owner.
It also seems a Mk IV is less commom than a Mark II or am i wrong? I read on www.calibre1040.com 10000 Mark IV are produced.

    Here she finally is

last picture is taken before a new Original glass was fitted and before she got a service.

I love the look of it, I find the dial interesting and cluttered in a good way. And the date is a very useful complication to have! Your one looks fabulous, love it.

it took me a long time to find one in it's Original condition. Often the pointers or dials are chanced or demolished and far more often the cases have been polisched to much or movement have been chanced.
    This one is correct
