    Interesting.

Did you try threading it 'Vance D Brand' style? This in effect doubles up the strap and makes it look and feel more substantial.

Stitching seems OK on mine, perhaps they vary?

Certainly not as good VFM as a GGB.

Tom, you only posted at 10:30 this morning that you wanted to get one - how on earth did you get it so quickly?!

Wow, best dad ever! Buy him a 'moon book' to go with it so he will appreciate the history. Might I suggest 'Moonfire' (Taschen) as the splendid photography might draw him in.

Five of the eight watches flight qualified by NASA are G-Shocks...

And before I get accused of thread creep, there's a Speedmaster in this shot which includes the NASA qualified Timex.

TBH I promised it when times were better. I had a nice watch for my 21st so it's something I wanted to carry on for both my sons. He's just finished his exams at university so hopefully it will be a 'well done' present as well

Some great looking watches in this thread.

I am a big Speedy fan and wear one most days. I have yet to wear the CK2998 although I've had it six months. I love the dial but am not a fan of the smaller case and the strap is frankly awful, thin and skimpy. Nothing a normal strap won't cure though.

In no particular order except the 3594.50 photo is a different size so it goes last.

    3572.50

    3570.50 with brown dial

    CK2998

Lol! I had actually ordered it online the day before and it was posted out to me straight away... can't fault their turnaround time! I arrived home to find it had arrived and tried it with a much needed frosty. Maybe I was a bit grumpy after a hot and sweaty commute, but it isn't for me. I have a GGB coming, maybe I will get on with that a bit better!

Will look at the Vance D method when I get home tonight. I tried it metal ring on top, looped through and then double back from bottom lug - so the caseback remains uncovered. Looks nice, but feels insecure. The velcro doesn't really grip that well.

Following the release of the Speedmaster Co-axial Moonphase at Basel in 2016, I have lusted after one of these watches, but given the size, height and weight dimensions I wanted to try one on in the flesh before deciding, an unusual departure for me as many watches have been bought and sold based on images and descriptions alone.

They were due to hit shops last Oct, but didn't reach the main boutiques until just before Christmas and didn't hit your average high street seller until late Feb, early Mar. Last month I saw my first one in the flesh and tried the blue dial version on and was generally happy with it, but looking at images of the rest of the range I kept coming back to the black dial on a SS Bracelet. Anyway, last week an opportunity arose to buy one so here it is, arrived this morning.

I know that it is a bit of a marmite watch on here with purists who don't like gimmicks and feel the urge to wind their Speedmasters every day, but I love it. I prefer automatics anyway and the NASA moonshot and footprint are a lovely touch and it has a date function.

Many congrats! I also love the detail on the moon with the imprint. I spent a while looking at that through a loupe when I first saw one of these, couldn't quite believe it! Enjoy your watch!

Thanks Tom, it will be interesting to take a few shots of it next to the Ed White when that comes back from service, it will be one extreme to another. I have contemplated a watch winder for this watch as it would be a pain to reset the lunar cycle every time you take the watch out of the box, easier to let it keep running I think.

I have a couple of Wolf cub winders. I like the fact it has a glass front so watch is protected/doesn't get dusty.

I did see some in Chester on Monday reduced to around £120.00 which I could pick up quite easily. I have done a WTB to see if anyone has one they want to move on.

You will find the GGB far more secure - which model have you ordered?

I ordered an SPV1.5 in Tan as there was less of a wait for these. I am patiently waiting.

When Cark is open for orders again I am going to order an SPV2 as well.

I picked up this 21mm Bremont strap on the SC last week, and I think it's a great fit for my Speedmaster. Bremont make (have made for them? Does GGB make Bremont straps?) some lovely straps. This one is backed with suede.

  39. #289
At some point will take a pic of my Speedies but this to me is the most important in the collection- Speedmaster 345.0802 with a very limited production run of 300 watches in 1980 with an 861L movement.
Also came with a signed card from Jim Lovell

I am intrigued by the non Omega bracelets that are prevalent in 1960's photos of astronauts going about their business on the ground.

As I understand it, NASA ordered Speedmaster heads only. They were then fitted with a variety of bracelets and straps - later on Velcro being the most used.

I believe that the ones shown the photos below are JB Champions

Long since out of production and expensive when the come up for sale. Wont fit 20mm lugs either - only 19mm I read.

This one is a Forstner Komfit as fitted to Ed Whites Speedmaster

I wonder why they didn't just use Omega bracelets when bracelets were required?

    Cost? Performance?

I am tempted to try a Geckota vintage style mesh.

Would be interested to know what mesh alternatives others have tried.
