It doesn't surprise me at all. I wasn't aware of the companies difficulties but in today's climate, at today's prices, with so much choice, it's understandable that companies are going to go bust, sadly.
Just saw this sad news.

I like some of their stuff but have never quite been able to make myself pay for it.
What's the issue with Eterna?

Not the best, or, at least, most appropriate, name then?!
It seems from the article that their movement team is still surviving. Perhaps somebody can buy Eterna for their movements and "go in-house".
Ouch, yes that is ironic, perhaps Extincta would work better.
Sad to see though, the Kontiki was quite appealing... 80% off at Jomashop, and all sold out now at that price, grab one if you like them and can find one I guess. Though I couldn't help but notice that the undiscounted RRP seemed very high, and all the designs too large, easily into the 42-44mm range for watches that might have worked better in a range of sizes.
We've been promised fire sales and brands going down for a while now, I guess it finally happened.
I read an article that said before Baselworld '17, Eterna had been unable to pay it's suppliers for months and had no CEO. Both issues were supposedly resolved just in time for Baselworld.
It's a pity as in recent history they've made some really nice quality watches but just never had the brand prestige to capture the public's imagination. I suspect as watches become more of an irrelevance, weak brands will disappear.

That's a shame
I saw the limited edition Super Kon Tiki 1973 for sale in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago.
It a watch I have always wanted to try. The Mrs even suggested I go in and treat myself to it!
IMO they make / some good looking watches and their contribution to movement design is second to none.
It's a shame to see smaller companies struggling.
Eterna are not the first smaller company to go under and I don't think they will be the last.
I think it's only a matter of time before others such a Glycine go pop.

Re the movements continuing, didn't ETA originate in Eterna way back?
I have a Glycine Pumpkin (non-Vintage) and it's lovely, really good timekeeper and gets quite a few comments. Shame they're going, but I expect this means the current now very collectible models will be going up in value
Sad to see their current state of affairs.
Glad the movement Division seems to surviving.
That really is sad news. I am a big fan of Eterna watches, they are such good value high quality pieces. I have a deposit down for the new Kontiki Bronze (released at Baselworld and due in October). Lets see if that actually materialises!
Always loved the original iconic pieces and would have loved to pull the trigger at some point but maybe I am too late now!!
