Done Manadaly Bay - fab but at the (Airport) end of the strip.
Belagio - best placed and great hotel.

I've stayed at quite a few over the years.
My favourite is Wynn (Encore), superb hotel. Staying their for 3rd time in September. Bellagio very good as well. Also stayed at Cosmopolitan, Caesars and Luxor.
Depends whether you're looking for luxury or a cheap price. What I will say is wherever you stay on the main strip will be fine as you'll probably spend hardly any time there anywhere.
Bellagio or Wynn/Encore. Both utterly fantastic.

There are some great ones like the wynn/encore and cosmopolitan. The best for me though is the Palazzo which is fantastic. All the rooms are suites and the facilities are amazing. It is attached to he venetian which is really cool too.

Wynn gets my vote too.
I've only stayed in the ones which rent rooms by the hour...........

What your after. But all the hustle and bustle right next door. The pool area is great. Like others have said a little out the way. Stayed at circus circus twice rough n ready
We loved the Aria but as we always seemed to go out and come back via Bellagio we decided that that would be the best pace to stay.
If your going to be spending a lot of time around the resort i would agree with the Wynn encore, but it's down one end of the strip. I like to walk out to go see stuff rather than get taxis so a central strip one works better for me. Bellagio or caesars palace would be better on location.

We live in San Diego, about 300 miles from Vegas. It's been 29 years since we were last there. The time before that I stayed at Caesar's Palace in December 1967, one week before Evel Knievel attempted his fateful jump over the fountains. I'm not much of a gambler...
As you can probably tell from the variety of favourite places most of the hotels are pretty good. I have stayed in many of them and haven't had a bad experience yet.
I'm booked in the luxor for a few days in June. Did it off a few recommendations. But it really depends on budget and which part you want to stay.

Four Seasons every time for me - excellent service.
I was in a bar in the palazzo waiting for some friends ,it took them ages to find me as I kept telling them I was in the Venetian ,I kept walking and thinking the Venetians massive

We stayed in the Vdara exactly a year ago and had a lovely suite for the same price as a standard room anywhere else. It has a walkway straight through to the Bellagio.

Both times i have been i have gone budget, Imperial palace and circus circus, for the amount of waking hours i spend in my hotel i saved the money and blew it on trips and tables.Both places were fine just dated, fresh linen,aircon and big rooms.
Save money, flight only & Motel 6 across the road from MGM Grand. Walking distance from airport too. £10 a night or so if not too busy. You stay longer & they cut you a deal!
Bit grotty compared to the big houses but in truth you only S S & Shave there. You can use all the other places facilities after all.
It gets VERY hot there so brace yaself.

Close to the airport and southern shopping outlet though so not all bad.
Ceasers, loved it - but if you didn't need a name (we enjoyed the "feeling" of pulling up / staying in a hotel with a reputation and egacy) or on the strip suspect you could save loads...
Wynn encore is great, although it is northside of the central strip.

I think we have narrowed it down to either the Bellagio or the Wynn (not encore), only a few hundred difference between the two (king suite with views).

I've stayed in both and they are both great (my favourite is Encore but you haven't asked about that). I'm actually staying at Wynn in September. From memory you have fantastic views of the golf course or the strip, Bellagio aim for the fountain views as the rear are okay but not as good. Either hotel is superb and you could probably just book any room and ask for an upgrade or view when you get there. More often than not they will do it if they can.

We stayed at the Venetian and though it was great, had a nice strip view room. However we spent some time in both the hotels you mention.
When we go back again we will stay at the Wynn. Lovely hotel, felt a bit more relaxed and not so many people crowding the lobby like the Bellagio. Went for lunch by the pool a few times and it was very nice. You won't be disappointed by either but the Wynn is the better hotel IMHO.
We went in July and the weather was lovely; never too hot but certainly very warm. We narrowed our choices between Bellagio and the Venetian and stayed in the latter. We was not disappointed, it was lovely. My brother and his family went the year after us and chose Bellagio, they loved that too. TBH any of the nicer Vegas hotels will be great I am sure. Enjoy!
Bad form to name drop but..... I met Jarrod & Brandy from Storage Wars in Pallazzo who were playing Craps! Both genuinely nice people who loved my tales of engerland. She IS bleedin hot in the flesh and after politely declining their offer of a 'group' snap, sat down wiv me mate a discreet distance from the table to enjoy a complimentary Bud or three watching her rear end jiggle around said table.
Yep, best two. We stayed at Wynn and is probably the best hotel but is right at top end of strip. Bellagio is more central, and whilst excellent it is probably not quite up there with the Wynn.

I booked into the bellagio but that's the last thing I remember :)
Got married and stayed at Mandalay Bay last year. No regrets with our choice.
Other hotels that caught our eye for a repeat visit were Wynn and Cosmo.
Well it's booked! 7 nights in a Tower Suite in the Wynn, can't wait!
Any tips on good things to do? Already booked a machine gun shooting afternoon, has to be done I'm afraid!

I may have missed it in your post but haven't picked up if this is a 'boys' or family holiday
from what I have seen it would be two totally different experiences
I have only been once which was for my Sister in laws 40th and was a 'couples' do, I thoroughly enjoyed it
there is so much to see and do, sure you won't be disappointed whichever angle you are coming from
We winged it a little but I had a bit of advice from a colleague who has been multiple times....
things we did and would recommend
Grand Canyon flight, we used Maverick helicopters for the Sunset tour and thoroughly enjoyed the experience (Mrs T was very anxious about the flight but it was the highlight of the trip for her!)
evening walk down the strip for the free shows, Bellagio fountains, Treasure island pirates and Volcano at mirage, Lake of Dreams show at the Wynn (whilst enjoying a beverage or two) either at the adjacent bar or from the balcony bar above
The big wheel at Linq and the Paris hotel, both good for nice panoramic views of LV,
The Stratosphere tower, old school but we had a great time here, spent an hour or so in the casino followed by the 3 thrill rides up top. 2 of us then did the Sky jump before heading back up for a meal at the rotating restaurant a great night.
Plenty of shows on offer, sure you wouldn't be disappointed with any of them
we saw Cirque du Soleil Mystère at Treasure island which was excellent and we also saw Britney at Planet Hollywood (great experience although not the best performance)
have heard good things about most of the cirque shows and also the blue man group
It would be rude to go to Vegas and not experience Freemont 'old school Vegas', Binions, Golden nugget, the light show etc. with cheap casinos, weird entertainers and the Heart Attack Grill! worth a night or 2 there
plenty of other entertainment on offer,
my highlight was a night out with my brother in Law, Dj Tiesto at Hakkasan MGM...
I'm sure you will have already been told but don't buy drinks in the Casinos, stick a dollar or 2 in the slots and wait for the girls to come around, a dollar or 2 'tip' per drink will see them coming around to keep you replenished.

I plan to take a sizeable chunk of cash with me to gamble, what is the best way of doing this?
I'm presuming changing to dollars and carrying in my fanny pack isn't the best option!

Depends how sizeable you mean? We got back at the weekend after a week in the Wynn, had an amazing time.
You can carry up to $10,000 in cash without declaring, any more then you need to declare it on the green immigration form they give you on the plane (along with any meats, cheeses or various citrus fruits you may be bringing into the country). You can also take different bank cards which you can get money out. If those two aren't enough contact the hotel beforehand (you need to get a casino host) and they will give you their bank account and you can wire over the money and draw it from the pit as and when you need it. Safest way of taking money I guess but a faff if you aren't gambling big amounts.
It was my 8th trip, I'm not a huge gambler (I avoid online or bookies) but I like a good go when I'm there. I get comped my room and generally all my meals in the hotel. Fortunately this time I came back with more money than I went with plus as I was winning each day I was buying quite a lot of clothes for everyone (dollar being so poor I wouldn't normally) whilst I was up. Luckily it stayed that way.
As a guide if you stay at one of the top hotels (Wynn, Bellagio etc) they are looking at an average bet of $200 per hand and 4 hours at the tables a day to get good 'rated' play, though they will still comp if you are betting lower amounts, just not as much.
