    Watch vanishes

Ever had a watch simply vanish on you?

Couple of weeks ago I was working on the shed wearing my g-shock dw5600. After I finished I swapped for something more refined and went out for a drink. But the Casio has not been seen since.

There is a possibility the dog managed to get it and it's chewed up and buried in the garden.

Only once. Cool Fila watch I used for sport at University when I didn't want to risk my Longines Conquest.

I had it happen a couple of times, but they always turned up. One I lost when moving offices. I wrapped it in a knit hat from my deployment bag. I found it 3 years later in a bag of extra gear.

Only from my wrist when I was not wearing a nato, but then I managed to find it after an hour of searching.

My beloved wife 'lost' her Rolex.

She was convinced it had vanished into thin air as she didn't know when she'd last seen it or when she'd last worn it.

Didn't tell me for 2 months.

It turned up 4 months later in a chest of drawers. She can only think she knocked it off the top while a drawer was open.

Not yet for me luckily. Yet.
Oddest thing though, a couple of months ago my wife found a quartz movement in the garden and handed it to me thinking it was mine, it wasn't. I looked around more and found a gold tone case with leather strap attached, and eventually a dial. It was an Asos, which I think is a cheap Argos type of thing. We have magpies nesting in the garden, and I can only think they nabbed it from somewhere, how it all came apart though I have no idea. I was reminded of this episode by Bond suggesting magpies to the OP.

Nowt expensive but the disappearance of a digital Casio HD has bugged me for a good few years now. I had a bluey one to go with my reddy one, the blue just disappeared one day and never reappeared. Unlikely to turn up now as I've moved a few times since the mystery. Oh well.

Yep last Sunday my Panerai went awol, searched everywhere and retraced my footsteps from the previous evening, even asked if it had been handed in a couple of shops...went home and resigned myself to an insurance claim.
Had one last scan around the bedroom and by chance knocked my pillow off the bed,lo and behold there it was..I'd had some strange sleep thing and taken it off the bedside cabinet and hidden it under there...yep I'm a bloody weirdo 😳

A Bulova Accutron Space View dissapeared from my dining room 20ish years ago. I put it on a sideboard and it was never seen again, sole occupants were SWMBO and myself. How?Where? Who knows.

Never considered the risk of a dog nicking a watch.

I'm borrowing stepdaughters labrador for a couple of weeks........maybe I need to be more careful where I leave watches!

Well, my g-shock still hasn't shown up. But I live in hope.

Nothing to do with watches.... but a few years ago I was staying at a hotel in Moscow and experienced another mysterious vanishing. I woke up in the morning and one of my shoes was missing from my room! Just a single shoe was next to the bed. Very weird. I knew I was wearing both shoes when I got back to my room the night before, so what could the explanation be? The room was double locked. Still, maybe I did some sleep walking and put my shoe it in the minibar or something daft?

So I searched every square inch of my hotel room. But I couldn't find my shoe. The window didn't open sufficiently wide to allow shoe defenestration. It was not outside the door. Someone must have come into my room in the night and taken my shoe. It was the Russians! No other logical explanation.

It was only when I decided to go and speak to reception bare footed that I solved the mystery. Just outside of my room was a room service trolley. When I had gotten back to my room the night before the trolley was in my room with the remains of my supper on it. Before turning in for the night I had wheeled it out of the room. Somehow my shoe lace had become entangled in the trolley wheel. And without realising, I'd dragged my shoe outside and it was stuck to the trolley.

    Yes... happened to me.

I had a Longines vanish. I didn't wear it that often and for a few weeks I'd been thinking I wonder where has SWMBO hidden my Longines watch (I had a Seiko for normal day-to-day)? Anyway one day I asked if she knew where it was. No idea... neither of us had seen if for quite a while. In fact the last time was when I'd done some car maintenance. All we could think was I'd left it on the wing (it was a Land Rover) whilst doing something or other and then driven off forgetting it was there. Honestly though to this day we're still not 100% sure what happened to it. Anyway insurance paid up and I got a Bond SMP :-)

It has yet to happen to me but I am now ultra careful what I have on a low surface as my 2yo has developed a love for putting things in the bin. I have had to pick out car keys and sunglasses thus far.

Yeah a few years back I was washing my car, wearing my Orsa Monstrum, took the watch off and left it on the bonnet of the other car. Maybe an hour later it was gone. To this day have no idea what happened, it was not stolen either as I was at my mums house, in the country 50 yards or so off the road :(
