    NATO or NO?

Over the weekend a couple of NATO straps arrived. Never before tried this style and wanted to try, with the following results.

Not really sure about either. But I do find very comfortable to wear. Welcome any thoughts...

It's a no for me I'm afraid. Nothing against NATO straps but they don't suit the watches here for my taste.

I really like Natos because they are both comfortable and practical (waterproof and if a spring bar fails you won't lose the watch).

And I think they look really good on your Rolex and your Panerai - nice and casual, ready for the summer!

No thanks. NATO's are pig ugly. I grew out of playing action man a long time ago.

A great match for the Rolex, really suits it. Not so sure about the Panerai though.

Seriously? If you don't like them, just say so. There is no need to insult others because they may like them.

The Rolex suits a Nato, but not that colour. I think one of Eddie's de-lux Natos with the orange edge would give a more subtle colour match and look better. I don't think the Panerai suits a Nato at all.

The Rolex goes well though perhaps, for me, a bit too much orange - I like the banded black and orange versions (Timefactors does a great one that I have just bought in black with orange edges - http://www.timefactors.com/natostraps.htm ). But that of course is just my taste: it's yours that counts!

If you get insulted by me thinking that nato's look like the thing actionman would wear then boohoo.

  11. #11
I always think they look great when the watch is viewed 'head on' like in your pictures, but viewed from the side and with the layers of material under the watch I think they look very odd indeed. I also always read how comfy they are to wear but I find most of them a little scratchy and peculiar on the wrist. I love all the different colour combos and I really want to like them - but they're a no from me. Ps they also stretch when wet and take ages to dry, neither of which happens with a bracelet or a rubber strap

    Not for me

NATO's are not for me but the orange one is ok on the Rolex as it ties in with the hands!

Don't like the other I'm afraid!!

I don't feel the need to insult you guys who do wear them and like them though, as that would be childish like a little kid who plays with action men or something😂😂😂

I think the colour needs changing for both.
Why not look at pics of watches on different colour/design natos, and hold your watch head over the ones on the screen? That way you will get a good idea of which colour/design would suit your watch.

Looks good on the Rollie, agree with earlier comment on Panerai, can't beat a nice distressed leather or VDB canvas on those.

I've got a whole bunch of NATO's, leather, good quality, cheap etc. I used to swear by them and still do for certain occasions. I won't go in the water without a NATO on, but of late haven't found them too comfortable. I prefer the RAF version (one piece instead of 2)

Loving that green one. Consensus seems to be a guarded yes for the exp2 and a no for the PAM. I tend to agree, but the OH loves the PAM on that strap so I may loose it for a while........

This 100%, functional as stop gaps - but not stylish IMO.

    Prefer leather or metal bracelet

It's not me you have insulted, I don't wear natos. But what you actually said was 'playing action man' not playing with an action man. Two completely different things.

My personal view is that it works well with the Explorer, picking up the orange, but not with the Panerai.

I guess it comes down to personal taste.

I think most watches can suit a NATO, depending on the combination of colours which in itself is a personal thing. For me, that Rolex is fine but the Pam not so much.

I quite like the Pam one. It's summery.
Not a fan of natos for me because of the height they add. Plus they always spin on my wrist.

I find Phoenix G10 NATO straps particularly comfortable, the Elite might be a subtler way of matching the flash of orange on the Rolex.

The Rolex looks good on a NATO to me and I like the vibrant orange colour of that one.

As mentioned above I think that the PAM is better suited to a conventional strap - its passable on the NATO though.

(In order to arrive at these conclusions I have used my 'eagle eyes')

The thing with NATOs is that once you start you can't stop. You never (well I never) find one that ultimately works better than the bracelet, but the chopping and changing at least stops me buying other watches for variety! I'm currently really enjoying this leather one. Not waterproof but soft and light.

    I think both look great

Six months ago, I never would have dared put a Nato on any of my watches, some crappy piece of fabric......up to that point I've always been very much a bracelet guy.

I bought a couple for my black bay and I've very much come round to the look, and actually prefer the look on the black bay over the bracelet.

There are some really nice leather ones out there which aren't cheap such as B&S but the quality is outstanding, however I do wonder how Omega manage to charge £180 for their one.

I would have to agree. I'm not a huge fan of how the layers of material increase the height of the watch off the wrist also. Although saying that, with the correct watch, they work. I say yes to both, especially with how different the PAM looks on the nato.

Don't like NATOs much, although I have my DN Voyager on one of Eddie's Deluxe RAFs, which is a functional choice as I can wear it generally and dive in it too, without it being uncomfortable, and my Gym watch (leather would get smelly and metal be uncomfortable - I had it on rubber, but swapped that strap to another watch I dive in sometimes).

I don't have much experience of Perlon, but the ones I've seen were horrible.

Generally, my preferences, in descending order, are Leather, Metal, Rubber, NATO and I've come to the conclusion that NATOs are really not to my taste.

I like NATO straps but usually in black or grey or dark green, the only exception would be any military colours you may feel entitled to wear, in my case this one.

They were probably the cheap eBay ones that cost about £5

Genuine Eulit ones (average £16) are the ones to go for:
