If I cam home with 5L of Speckled Hen my wife would walk out and not come back for the weekend.
Any other beer, wine of spirit no issue but that stuff (for reasons unknown) brings out extremely childish, silly behaviour in me. I love it.

Great value. I'm hoping for a similar deal on Adnams Ghost Ship 5L cans.

Old Speckled Hen is my favourite beer! I actually bought one of these barrels a couple of weeks ago, the tap mechanism is a bit fiddly but it works ok, more importantly it tastes excellent and now at a tenner a barrel, bargain!

That's crazy cheap. I'm actually considering a round trip to the (not so) local branch - especially if they have Budvar too.

That's the liquid refreshment for the chaps drinking session at mine sorted. Thank you for the heads up OP!

I assume it comes with a tap of some sorts?

How long is it good once opened, I'm an extreme lightweight (too often driving) and a whole bottle is a bit too much for my system these days sorry to say.

I tried one of these kegs last Christmas and I have to say how disappointed I was. It's supposed to have a shelf life of 3 days (I think), but after around 8hrs it had gone flat. After 2 days it was totally flat and it tasted like home-brew; I ended up throwing some away because it wasn`t enjoyable. It's Ok if there's a few of you and you're drinking it quickly, but it's no good if you want to drink it over 3 days.

Frankly, I prefer to buy bottles (£1.25 for 500mls from Lidl).

I'll add that to my list on the Beer thread.
Not sure I've got a 5 litre glass though.

Check those 5L cans carefully before buying. Tesco have 5L of Hobgoblin at £15 ie £3 per litre, but it's "only" 4.5%. Just along the aisle the bottled version is £1.25 per 500ml bottle, ie £2.50 per litre but it's 5.2%. Of course if it's on offer, which I believe it has been for £8 in the past it seems a no brainer, but does it taste the same I wonder?

I had one of these at Christmas and as Paul said after 2 days all the gas had gone and it would take about 30 mins for a pint to dribble out and ended up throwing half of it away

Getting it out wasn`t a problem (I think there's a way of venting the thing), but it was flat as a fart!

Reminded me of the old party four cans (anyone remember them?) from the 70s, they were OK if you drank the lot fairly quickly but like most canned beer in those days it wasn`t very nice.

Stick to small cans or bottles for home....or go to the pub more often

Boys, you need to remember that when you vent these cans to facilitate pouring, you must close the venting 'thingie' afterwards until the next pour or the can contents will go flat.
