Not something you see everyday, Wittnauer Elecro-Chron

Whist rummaging in 'watch stuff corner' for a strap for my Vostok, I found this that I haven't really ever worn despite owning it for many years, the wife wore it but hasn't for a while, a early example of the Wittnauer Elecro-Chron with the Lanteron 4750 electric movement, the fantastic hands are what attracted me to it, shame I didn't get the lightning bolt minute hand very clearly, its on the original bracelet ( semi expanding ) but its too small for me so Ive just ordered a brown lizard grain strap which I think will suit it, its on the small side to what Im used to but Ill give it a go and see how I get on.

Thanks, to be honest, I was surprised to find it still running, it must be a couple of years on the current battery now, it was serviced by Paul at http://electric-watches.co.uk/makers...electro-chron/
but I can't remember how long ago, but its at least a couple of years ago.

Very nice to see. I love these various electric watches. I have a watch with a similar movement but transistorised/contactless rather than the contacts on the balance wheel like yours, so a bit later.

One thing many of these watches have in common are visual references to the electric nature of the movement - lighting bolts, transistors as minute markers etc. Really evokes an age when electronics looked like the future.

A great watch to have, nice that you will be wearing it again.

Very nice - love the Flash Gordon hands and the 12 marker!

Do you know how old it is? I'd also be interested to know the size, and to see a pic of the movement if you ever have the back off it.

Thanks, early 1960s I believe and its 36mm without crown so not too bad, way smaller than Im used to though!
No movement shot of this one Im afraid but there is this one from Pauls site.
the battery is accessed by a hatch in the middle of the caseback.

Out of interest, in what way? They seem charming and legible at the same time to me.

That strap does it a lot of favours. This isn't the first watch that you have been responsible for me adding to my saved searches...

Thanks all, it's quite a cheap strap but I'll get a decent one if I can get used to the size. Will look nice with a suit I think .

Never seen one quite like this, I love it, all the right kind of 60's/70's quirky. Nice size too.

A crime that one has been tucked away all this time but at least you're righting your wrongs now.

Good choice! It looks a treat on that strap - hope you get on with it size-wise. IMO it looks quite nicely proportioned and deserves a bit of time out of the box

First one I've seen in years. I remember seeing one with a dealer in the West Country and wished I bought it then..

Probably Paul, Silver Hawk, he's got a few.
And Martin Scribilus ( sp?) He has a great collection of Electrics.
