1981 Seiko - which to go for?

I was born in 1981 and I would like a Seiko from my birth year. My dad was bought a Seiko by my mum when they fell pregnant with me so it kind of resonates with me. I have his watch currently which I will be wearing on Friday for my wedding (he passed in January) but I would like my own as I will be giving the watch back to my mum. Sadly the watch doesn't really work but I think repairing it would remove a lot of the meaning from the watch, so it will forever stay broken. I suspect I will get the watch back when my mum passes on, but that is another consideration, hopefully for a day a long, long way away.

    So anyway, 1981 Seiko's. Any recommendations? My current line up is;

    1995 TAG Heuer 2000 series
    Casio Ediface RedBull EFR-539RB
    Casio G-Shock DW9052-1V
2017 TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 5 (Blue face)

It doesn't need to match my collection as such, but I am looking for a wind up watch and a divers watch (I know the 2000 series is diver-esque, but it isn't the style I would class as a divers, if that makes sense?

    Thanks.

I'd say if you can find one like this it's game over as this is everything you need

Or how about a 7548-700C for a bit of extra colour?
    This one is from 1981:

Or 7549 if your budget will stretch to it, this is my old 1981 tuna.

    What about a 6309 7040?

For a "special" birth year watch this would be my choice. Vintage Tunas are quite special and wonderful things.

Also born in 1981, I bought this a few years ago:

Birth month in fact. Trouble is, not much of it was used Rick although so I kept the caseback and sold the rest!
I think these still represent good value for money if you can find a nice original example.

Is there a 1981 golden tuna? A timeless classic. If not, the tuna above is rather nice.

I'd second all the previous suggestions for the 7548, 6309 7040 and 7549 as they are all fantastic divers. Even though they're quartz and I've seen you wanted an auto I'd also have a look through the 7A28 and 7A38 chronograph models.

The first 7A28's weren't manufactured until late 1982 (November, IIRC) and the earliest 7A38's followed in August 1983.

I'm throwing the 6458 into the mix…. I'm assuming they were as early as '81

This. Find a good original one, still plenty about. Or one with aftermarket parts if the price is right. Good luck in your search, whatever your final choice is.
