Wound up and alarmed, but not shocked

"Accidently" (you know how it is...) I picked up this little item recently:

Has a nice solid tick and an urgent ding-a-ling alarm. Ideal for waking the weary traveller from jet-lag.

But what of these 8 jewels and especially, Diafix? Diafix is Seiko's mechanism for pivots that don't need shock protection (c.f. Diashock for the balance staff, which does). It has been used on everything Seiko, from this specimen, to the 7S26, and current Spring Drives. Diafix ensures the "proper quantity of oil in application and perfect oil maintenance thereafter", apparently.

(Our own Watchbloke has much more in his excellent "Jewellery Lesson")

A little more debonaire than a smartwatch, perhaps.

Very nice. I could not have resisted that either.

I'm enjoying the "tick" as I fall asleep. It's hard to think that many have never experienced an otherwise-silent room caressed by the gentle percussion of a mechanical clock.

Lovely turn of phrase Tokei. Very evocative.
