    My Modest SOTC

My watch story began with an SKX, and up until last year my collection was mainly full of SKX variants in many colours and one mid range watch, an Oris Aquis Small Seconds. I made the decision to sell the Aquis and the SKX's with the aim of moving up a notch in quality. Here's what I have now:

1: Seiko Sumo. I had wanted to upgrade from the SKX to a better quality Seiko Diver and always had the Sumo in mind. I was not disappointed at all, I love the case and finishing of the Sumo. If it had a better clasp on the bracelet it would be pretty much perfect. Great watch for the money.

2: Seiko Batman Turtle. I loved the original Turtle, but am a bit wary of vintage watches and when the re-issue arrived and jumped in. I had the Batman and the PADI, only one could stay and the Batman won. It's rarer than the PADI and I love the colour scheme. One of the comfiest divers I've owned.

3: SKX009. Yes, one SKX survived the cull. It's my work watch and what most would call my beater. Rock solid, few scrapes here and there but it still manages to look class.

4: Smiths Everest. Recent buy after wanting one for a while. It's living up to it's reputation. A nice non-diver which is a big step for me, as I was a 'diver-only' guy not too long ago. I wish it had a Seiko NH35 or 2824 rather than the Miyota as the rotor is noisy and it sometimes bugs me.

5: Stowa Marine Automatic. The watch that broadened my horizons! My favourite watch currently. I never though I would wear something like this, slim, classic, almost dressy watch. They always looked so good in photos that I convinced myself I had to try one. I am so glad I did. Mine has the top version ETA and it runs within COSC parameters. It's currently on a grey nylon with deployant which makes it a little more casual to me but it looks great on leather too.

So I feel like I've evolved quite a bit in the last 12 months. I've upped the quality of my much loved Seiko Automatic Divers and added two watches that I would have admired but not seen myself wearing to the collection, one of which has become my current favourite watch. So where to from here? Well I never stop looking, and I'm sure there'll be some in and some out in the future. I can see the Stowa eventually going for a Marine Original. I may add a domed sapphire to the Sumo at some point and possibly a Crafter Blue rubber. As much as I enjoy the look of the Smiths Everest, I think I will replace that sooner or later. The Batman is staying put. I feel I want to get something mid-range from Tudor or Omega but that jump up in price is bit of stumbling block for me, but I'm sure I'll take the leap when I have the confidence/funds. Until then I'll continue to enjoy the watches I have and keeping my eye on SC for the next addition.

I'm not surprised that the Stowa is your favourite.

Love the simplicity of your Stowa. I know what you're saying re the Everest, I'm in the same boat!

What an excellent collection , all 3 Seiko's are classics . However beware that all us watch lovers suffer from a condition called flipperitis so it won't be long that you'll be displaying a new collection

Some really excellent tool watches plus the Stowa is a very nice alternative.

I am a particular fan of the Sumo. For some reason, I keep thinking of selling mine but then I wear it for a few days and realise what a quality, versatile piece it is and think that I must be insane for even thinking of letting it go.

    Congrats on the collection.

Great collection. I love that you can actually see your tastes changing and broadening in just a small series of pictures.

As per the rest, the Stowa looks bloody lovely. Nice and refreshing

It's lovely isn't it, Stowa make some beautiful watches. The 1938 chrono has really caught my attention recently.

It's my first Stowa, pretty sure not the last. I want an Orange Sumo, but scared of falling into the trap I did with the SKX and owning loads of colourways of the same watch.

I know what you mean, my horizons are definitely widening, I'm considering watches I never thought I would. The Stowa was the catalyst.
