Funny, this type of music came up on my recommended YT videos and I've been listening to some of this stuff for a few months now...

I hope I won't be afflicted. What's next ? The clothing ? The portable phone on your car ? The car itself ????

Hanging out with my totally rad friends...

Fantastic tip-off, soundood. If I had a "new jam", this would be it.

Unless I've missed something here, this isn't a new thing - Synth Wave and Outrun have both been a thing for a while ... Kavinsky, Electric Youth, College, Chromatics, Sally Shapiro, Mitch Murder, FutureCop etc there are several artists out there of which I have a bit, and I like it.

Crap, it most certainly is not.

I've been rocking this stuff for a few years now, there are some great mixes on the Valerie Collective site. How could you forget Tesla Boy! :)

Alphaville recently released new album, so, there was always appreciation for 80is style music.

She blew it really after a promising start, don't you think? Shame.

Possibly, but I did enjoy when she joined Heaven 17 for the "Live at Abbey Road" BBC special.

I know, I was so looking forward to that, then it seemed a bit hit and miss. Anyway, still a couple of classics.

like that too, and has been said, I dont think this has really went away, daft punk touched on it, coupled with the link to anime, its just now its a 'thing' for the intellect devoid ex hipsters.

I guess we should get ready for its ruin thanks to them.

That's about the only positive thing coming from that era...

Music-wise, it all stopped with Jan Hammer's Miami Vice theme...

I think we're due an 80s revival. It's been the "uncool decade" for a while now, but it's not that long ago that the 70s was the butt of all the jokes. Things are in fashion, then they go out for while, then they make a comeback - it's the usual cycle, and the 80s are probably the next up.

I think music has been linking back to the 80s for quite a while - you can certainly see where synth pop band like Chvrches get their inspiration from. I also think a lot of indie music has a whiff of the 80s about it.

The fashion is a more difficult ask, although things tend to go from one extreme to another. The whole beard thing is a great example - I don't think many blokes of my generation (now in 40s/50s) had beards (other than goatees, which were a bit of a 90s thing iirc), as it was what our parents (grandparents?) had, and the last thing you want to do is look lovely he your parents. I'm waiting for moustaches to come back next, maybe combined with big-hair.

There's some cracking 80s-style synth pop in Drive - I particularly liked Kavinsky and College and sought out more of their stuff after.
