Mega hotels in Europe for a honneymoon week - any ideas?

    September 4th for a week.

Am drawn to the Grand Hotel Excelcior Vittoria in Sorrento. It's rather pricey but looks amazing.

    http://m.exvitt.it/en/index.html

We want a relaxing week and are happy to be in a quiet location or a town with plenty of nice restaurants.

This one is also a good option in Greece. It's miles from anywhere but has 7 restaurants and a few bars. Ought to be warm enough to sunbathe in early September. http://www.romanoscostanavarino.com

Happy to go a bit further afield if it's a direct flight and still warm/hot.

    Any suggestions?

I was at a wedding in Sorrento and the bridal party stayed in the hotel you linked up, it is amazing.

Sorrento is stunning too, absolutely stunning.

Ironically I know the Greek hotel too, but only as it appears in my Facebook feed every year as a load of Herbalife people hold an annual conference there.

This always made me wonder how 'luxury' it really is.

Same here about the Greece hotel. Girl I know went last year with the same company I imagine. She posted loads of good pics on Facebook. Hotel did look good

If money is no object you could consider the Eden Roc at Cap d'Antibes. The same group also has a 12th century Templar castle hotel in Vence, that would get you the Med and the Provence experience. And you shouldn't have to worry about it being warm early September, the sea should be close to mid 20 degrees.

Pestana palacio de freixo in Porto - amazing relaxing location and Porto has everything from beaches to trams and steam trains and a large park, 7 bridges, excellent seafood, port of course and pretty good flight connections as has Lisbon:

Pestana palace in Lisbon - just check out the photos... in a very quiet part of town but taxi's & trams take you anywhere and everywhere in lisbon - not as quaint a city as Porto is of course... but some parts are great

these definately have the wow factor but at reasonable prices

I have just come back from Sorrento and there isn't a lot to the town in my opinion (I know is a honeymoon) you would also need to check what is running as Southern Italy is very seasonal so pools etc. could well be closed.

That said my choices would be -

    Taormina in Sicily -

    https://www.belmond.com/grand-hotel-timeo-taormina/

    Florence -

    http://www.fourseasons.com/florence/

Or if you want to stay more in the hotel (although a nice little town is in easy walk)

I think for a honeymoon I would go either the San Domenico or Port Soller - Port Soller is more the destination, spa infinity pool, adult and childrens pool, SD is a very characterful luxury hotel in a lovely (very high end) town with views of Etna and the sea. Taormina also has the Italian Navy statue on a Miale in the lovely gardens ;-)

Borgo Egnazia Resort (Savelletri, Apulia IT) is one of the most wonderful places I have ever seen. In September the local fish restaurants must be in full activity .... my brother went there last summer for his 30th anniversary, loved it.

I have stayed in a few of these and really recommend them, Dubai, South Africa, Mauritius and Bahamas.

All amazing and the service whilst being attentive is not too in your face. I am not keen on a personal storker service levels, especially if you like a bit of privacy.

Might be worth checking out a couple of the higher end hotels in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast.

Villa Cimbrone http://www.villacimbrone.com/en/home.php is quite something

    as is

    Palazzo Avino http://www.palazzoavino.com/

    Cheers

Have just finished booking the Grand Hotel Excelsior Victoria for the week. Can't wait, it looks stunning.

I emailed a few heli-transfer companies about taking us from Naples to the helipad at the hotel. Knowing a 30 minute flight over London is available in a twin turbine helicopter for about £250 per person, I was expecting the quotes to be in the £400 range. But no, all 3 companies wanted over 2000 euro for the 15 min flight. Unreal. We'll stick to the included private transfer!

Thanks for the tips, I've bookmarked a couple of the hotels above for future holidays! That one in Port Soller looks stunning.

    How about Florence

I am staying right now in the Hotel Spadai and it is very nice. Good size room Jaccuzzi bath for two, complimentary mini bar etc. You get to see Florence which although is busy, makes perfect honeymoon material.

    Sorrento is nice. Enjoy.

Il buco is the best restaurant in town. Book it early.

Day trips to Pompeii and Capri are great as is the Amalfi coast drive.

    Congrats.

No shortage of these places. Look at Kempinski group, Four Seasons/Ritz-Carlton/Peninsula Group/Leading Hotels of the World. Places like Paris Ritz or The Crillon, Hassler in Rome or Hotel du Cap all cater for money no object, your wish granted altho' a few years ago the Hotel du Cap requested Russian guests to secure their handguns as the cleaning staff were unhappy around firearms!!

The best European hotel I've ever been to is Domes of Elounda on Crete. Absolutely stunning location and service, will be going back at some point.

Also been twice to Pestana Cidadela Cascais in Portugal. Equally amazing but the weathers not quite as nice this time of year.
