Thread: Jubilee vs Oyster

    Jubilee vs Oyster

I have often toyed with the idea of getting an old Jubilee for my 1675 and finally got around to it recently. The Rolex GMT is one of my favourite watches, in its various guises, partly because of its versatility. I still prefer it on an Oyster, but would be interested to hear peoples' thoughts.

I was going to say that I like them equally however, if I could only ever have one, it would be the oyster.

I used to think that jubilee's were a bit 'old'. Had bought my Dad one !
However I picked one up with a 1675 and I have to say they are really comfortable and make a nice change from an oyster. I actually have the folded jubilee so it's light and About the same age as the watch which is great.

I think the oyster looks better in pictures, but from experience the jubilee is more comfortable to wear as you have smaller links - if that makes sense.

It does, that's why I love a jubilee.

I like the jubilee John, but I think it belongs on an oyster. Wasn't the jubilee offered as an option on these in the past? I could well be imagining that.

Stunning watch on either bracelet. I actually really like the look of an old GMT on a Jubilee.

the jubliee to me really suits the GMT and a winner in my eyes. I have a 16750 1984. Oyster is on my explorer 2 so at least i get to enjoy both.

your GMT looks superb! very lucky man

For me, it's highly dependent on the watch. In this case I prefer the oyster on the GMT. But, for example, I prefer a jubilee on a DateJust. Horses for courses...

The Oyster is my favourite for the GMT but I love the Jubilee on the Datejust.
    That 1675 is a beauty!

Never worn a jubilee, but from your photo's, your GMT suits the Oyster better in my mind. Lovely watch.

I agree. Jubilee is supremely comfortable, but the Oyster takes it, on looks.

Another vote for the oyster. It looks great!

I have been lusting after a jubilee for my more modern 16710; these pictures (credit: pwatchworks, instagram) have only served to heighten my interest.

Does anyone have one spare by any chance?? :)

  25. #25
I did try it on one of my 16710s also....

I don't consider myself very sporty, subsequently the jubilee is indeed my cup of tea. For a reason unknown I believe the jubilee suits better with more formal looks.

    For me

    Older GMT = Jubilee
    GMT II = Oyster

For the most part Rolex agree ;)
It's just a matter of time...

I like Jubilee only when there is a fluted bezel.

Ultimately I prefer the oyster but it's cool when you see a GMT on a jubilee - something different.

Think the jubilee looks better personally, old or new.

A very beautiful watch, you are so lucky!
I also think the older watches look better on the Jubilee, but either look great on your watch.

What I noticed with my watches is that the jubilee gives off a feeling of lightness, airiness, almost a certain fragility if you will. And it's such a great design that it will either work with complement watches that are like that themselves, or create a nice contrast with more masculine ones - to me, both the GMT and the Sub look great on the jubilee.

This is my Lorenz Flightmaster, which comes on a jubilee: Lorenz 3s10 14502 i.jpg The watch is very thin and not that big (39.5 mm) and I can't imagine a better bracelet design to go with it. And even though it's a far cry from Rolex quality bracelet, it's still amazingly comfortable, it wraps around the wrist like no other.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think the jubilee is just so right on the GMT. The OP's first picture is knockout.
