Nice of Peter Kay to find a bit of extra work for that Guy Garvey. Bury/Chorley solidarity.

My life was captured for a moment in the cyclist bit. V.funny and true to life. I know all the roads the show is filmed on so amusing to spot the different things. V.good - the way he has let her carry the show while he assumes a straight role. Oh and the Shaun Ryder Rehab Centre

Agreed. No canned laughter, gimmicks or cliches, just the warmest, sincere and superbly played humour.

Huge fan. I much prefer PK's TV stuff to his stand-up. Phoenix Nights and That Peter Kay Thing are fantastic, as is Car Share!

For me the simplest of lines are the best:

K - "I ate a whole packet of Maryland cookies last night"

    J - "Easy done"

Absolutely! Something that is much lost in comedy today.

Off topic, but would recommend 'Detectorists' if not seen, again, a gentle and subtle affair..

Indeed - I was only thinking earlier that the two have a very similar, subtle, gentle, underplayed humour.

Agreed 100% and to achieve that take huge amounts of skill, I wish that there was more of this quality on TV as it's hugely enjoyable.

    Couldn't agree more.

I love both of those shows and it just shows that real comedy doesn't have to be "right on".

I don't "do" television but I have to admit having flown into the UK this afternoon I've just watched Ep1 of the new series. Where are you guys finding the whole second series please? I need to know whether she gets promoted to the sausage counter by the end of the series.

The whole of series two (4 episodes) is on the BBC iPlayer.

Watched Ep 1 and enjoyed it greatly. I am a fan of most of Peter Kays shows, admittedly.

Really enjoyed the second series like most people via player the night they were released!

Interesting article below about how it was filmed:

I've caught a few on iplayer. In advance.
Watchable. But not as good as series 1.

Proper lovely comedy, a million miles away from the ruder stuff that is now the mainstream these days.

    However...

    Spoilers...

Too much foul language for this to be elevated to cult or classic status and utterly infuriating how the end of episode 4 was left open for another series. Short and sweet should be the way to go, not milking it until folk ate sick of it.

I have a hunch that the "real" ending will come in a double length Christmas special and that will be that, short and sweet as you say.

You could be right there, season one was six episodes so there are potentially two left of season two.

I liked all the pie references in Wigan, definitely putting that town on the places to avoid map.

You're probably almost definitely certainly bang on the money. All the constant chat about the Christmas team would suggest that too.

Isn't it just. The car/loop thing also reminded me of this little gem..

Watched all four back to back with the wife. She went from what the hell is this crap to loving it.

The one when they went to the zoo was hilarious. It's fantastic to see this sort of stuff still being created.

I love all of the little bits in the background. Suspect I only picked up a few though so will have to watch again.

I understood that episode 5 has been aired - but on iplayer I can only get to episode 4

Only 4 episodes this series. That's your lot.

Very disappointing that there were only four episodes after a two year wait - and only two episodes were really good.

  42. #42
In the spirit of balanced opinions, I can't bear Peter Kay and just the sight of his smug face irritates me greatly. A northern accent and being overweight does not equal funny. And don't get me started on James Corden. Just saying!!

I don't think I believe that. By the time the Christmas schedules are published they will announce that "following overwhelming viewer requests we have decided to make a two part Christmas Special". The clues were in the second series. It took until the final Christmas Special of The Office for the hero to get the girl and this will be the same.

  47. #47
I don't really like Peter Kaye (his stand-up, and smug interview persona particularly), but Car Share has been excellent. It's certainly a fresh approach to a comedy series, and the retro soundtrack definitely helps.

there shouldn't be anything else. Life is not always about a happy resolution. But I suspect the pressure will go on him to end it in a positive way

You know full well that they will still see each other every day in their humdrum supermarket jobs and that the communication breakdown/confusion will be resolved. I believe Peter Kay himself has gone on record in favour of happy endings generally. I think the decision to end with a Christmas special was made when the second series was commissioned and scripted.

Possibly he has said "we won't film any more episodes" because they have already been filmed?
