Three Choirs have some nice whites.
Steer clear of the reds though.

it's about time I tried a few of these although none seem inexpensive. Waitrose stock a number online but their supermarkets only seem to stock a couple citing lack of demand although I'm told they can stack up well against the competition. Any suggestions? Are they worth the premium price?

Just down the road from me, might give you an idea?

If you like champagne style wines then Nyetimber Classic Cuvee is very good. It's not cheap but IMHO better than the cheapest champagnes.
Buckfast seems quite popular.............., in Scotland.
Second that, not cheap but better than most, just down the road from me and can't wait until their visit centre is up and running. Try Hush Heath as well. Thankfully the old bitter apple juice type wines are being driven out and replaced with a far better class of wine - still and sparkling.
EFA.
Nyetimber often wins blind taste tests against the best that the Champagne region can produce.

Coincidentally, Nyetimber is currently 25% off at Waitrose (bringing the price down to £26 per bottle).
If you buy 6 bottles, you get a further 5% discount.
