Thread: Eterna Kontiki Bronze - Anyone bitten

Eterna Kontiki Bronze - Anyone bitten

Okay so I put a deposit down for one of these today, slightly on impulse - just wondering if anyone else has bitten or am I the only one!! Seems like a cool limited edition and I've always liked the brand...

I really like the texture on the dial but the bezel markings mean nothing to me - I hardly ever need to decompress when surfacing from my desk

I'm tempted by the stainless version. But as above, losing the timing bezel seems a bit pointless.

I really like the brand too but nothing about that attracts me at all....and that bezel....jeez.

But if you like it, that's all that matter. I love my Bulova Moon Watch but plenty people don't.

Lovely granulated dial on that. What's the size of the watch?

Hmmm so a mixed reaction at best. Price seems decent for an in house calibre. It's also very different to anything else in the collection. Long wait until October though

With only 300 it is not likely to pop up on the grey market at 75% off unlike most Eterna models

That would be quite annoying but always a risk when buying Eterna. Certainly not buying this for its investment potential though!

Great looking watch. Unmistakably an Eterna. That bezel is quite odd though and the only thing that lets it down in my eyes. Is that a catalogue picture?

I really like this one but found 44 to be a bit much. Would like to see it in a shop to see how it works on the wrist. V cool tho, I love these kontiki designs, just always worry they’d look a bit dinner plate on me.

Particularly like that it doesn’t have the date that they usually squeeze in somewhere around 5 o’clock. Always seems like an afterthought or something that’s been in the brief without ever having been part of their design plans. But that’s just me.

I got this email from the dealer today:

The watch is currently undergoing a final quality control check with Eterna UK today.*

We are expecting the first release*of orders (including you timepiece)*to arrive with us possibly by Saturday,*at the very*latest early next week.

I like almost everything about this watch (including the diameter), but unfortunately I think they’ve blown it with that peculiar bezel...

    What a shame.

Doesn't look like 44. Bezel does look odd...not sure I understand it.

Looks great I think, not sure why they ruined the look of the blue and black steel versions with a date at 4. Wierd choice.

Anyhow, the bezel is a No Decompression limit bezel. You line the bezel up with the minute hand and as the minute hand progresses, it tells you when you have to surface, dpendent on the depth of your dive. So you can have up to 4 mins at 60m, 22 mins at 32m, 42 mins at 22m, 54 mins at 18m.

When I said I thought they’d blown it I was making a personal observation about the appearance of the bezel (I don’t like the look of it), I was not suggesting they wouldn’t sell any.

The description of how it works from the poster above is both informative and helpful... however I still wouldn’t choose to buy one.

It's been 9 months since I dropped a £500 deposit on this beauty. Since then there were rumors Eterna had gone bust, and that this watch would never get made. Fortunately these proved to be unsubstantiated and the watch arrived today. Eterna has recently appointed a new CEO and hopefully things are looking up for them. If they continue to make watches like this at these price points I can see a bright future.

I'll get some decent pictures up when I have some daylight but for now....

Don't like the odd bezel. Can't see it being bought by many divers who'll use that.

Otherwise looks good now but don't like the way bronze ages.

whereas I would be bunging it in a freezer bag with two freshly microwaved eggs as soon as I got it...

I love the way bronze ages, my Armida is getting better and better (although, now I think about it, Armida are petty honest about using brass, not bronze)

It does. I've only done it once (on a £200 watch) but it gave a good 'starting' patina which then developed.

You will really enjoy that watch. Been wearing my Black Bay Bronze for a couple of months, no comments when it was lovely and shiny but now gets a great deal of attention with a lovely deep patina, especially with a Steveo parachute harness strap!

They were basically allocated just 8 pieces (out of the 300 made) so not sure if they were all pre-sold but worth asking if you are interested. I did manage to get a little off the RRP but have bought from them many times before so they were happy to reduce a little.

How are owners finding these? I have seen one and I am on the fence because of the bezel, cool to describe but weird to look at!
