    JLC Atmos service query

    Hello everyone,

I have a JLC Atmos clock that belonged to my great uncle. It runs a little slow and it has never had a service (must be 25 years old now). Is there anyone Forum members would recommend I send it for a service?

    Thanks all! Poor pic below:

A year last November, I did the JLC factory tour, and very good it was too. Saw the room where they were servicing Atmos clocks. If it's only running a bit slow/quick, you can adjust to see if it sorts it out, just google the instructions if you haven't got them with the clock. Otherwise, I guess it's any JLC AD to get it sent back to Switzerland.

I have a newish Atmos, and the adjustment screws keep it running pretty well to time, once you've had a few goes at getting it right.

Thanks for the input. I have adjusted on the top/regulator pusher. It is getting to be quite near the end of the possible adjustment range and that, combined with its age, rather indicates it needs a service and I'm keen to get someone who knows what they're doing to do it. Yes, it could go back to JLC but if so it is away for 8-10 months so a London specialist shop told me. Prefer to have someone in UK do it, if there's anyone qualified.

There's a simple tool which can adjust it beyond the reach of the fine tuning screws. After borrowing one from the London Atmos dealer where my dad bought his, he had one himself. Very accurate now. If helpful I can photograph and measure the tool for you.

I bought mine from David Worthington at the Midlands Clock and Watch Fair a few years ago.

He bought up Atmos clocks and serviced and refurbished them. I haven't seen him at the Clock Fair for a while but if you contact the organisers I'm sure they will put you in contact.

    Repair and service

I bought my Atmos a bit over a year ago from this chap, I had been looking for a while and when this one was advertised he stated that the bellows had a date of manufacture marked on them, it was my actual birthdate , had to buy it !.
I was really pleased with the condition and everything. I had chatted with him on the phone first and he said it was a hobby of his to buy, refurbish and service them.
I can recommend him so may be worth contacting him for your service needs.

pleased to help. he sounded such an enthusiastic chap on the phone, he did laugh when I said if it went wrong in 10 years time could I send it back for repair, he said at his age he would really still hope to be here in 10 years time !!

Wow! Lucky you. I would have done the exact same if I were in your shoes.

Anyway, what sort of prices should I expect to pay on an older (>20 years) JLC Atmos?

Condition is everything with an early clock like this, I found quite a few online from America that were around £500 to £600 but then there would be carriage costs, import duty, VAT etc, also might be a problem if they are not exactly what I wanted. Then I started looking at UK sellers, this one appealed to me because he said it had been serviced, that he was an enthusiast and the condition was probably a 9 to 9.5 out of 10. The photographs were good and showed lots of angles and views which I was happy with. I had made my mind up that I wanted a round faced all brass single colour as well.
Finally I had my mind put at rest after chatting with the chap on the phone.

He gave a discount to me as well as I paid him with a debit card directly over the phone , this saved him Paypal and sellers fees as well.
All said and done it was about £900 if I remember correctly.

I think they are not very well known and it might only be a matter of time before more people catch on to them and hopefully they may creep up a bit in value.
I was really pleased with his fast delivery as well, well packed etc.

The clock itself was very impressive and I had not quite realised how large it was in comparison to a regular carriage clock, very pleased all round.

Best of luck in your search.
