This toolset from Amazon has the tools to remove the press fit and rotary screw fit case backs. The reviews are good too :)

I have a few fairly inexpensive quartz watches and I was thinking of getting some tools so that I can change my own batteries. Can anyone point me toward the tools I might need? I don't want to spend a fortune on professional quality tools, but I am wary (rightly or wrongly) of the cheap sets available on eBay.

I got a cheap eBay set and in all honesty I wouldn't bother. It looks a good deal but that yellow handle case opener is like tin and a tough case will destroy it. The strap adjuster pins bend like chocolate wilting in the sun. The only decent bit is the strap tool which is ok. They're cheap, but it did give me an idea of what I really needed.

A case opening knife will get most open, but some quartz casebacks can be very tight. There is a special jig for opening them that costs around £60, I have one and I use it when the knife won`t work.
Have you thought about how you'll get them back on? I usually end up using a press. A cheap press and a set of plastic dies can be bought quite cheaply.
Unfortunately there's no really cheap options, the tools are specialised. In most cases there are cheap alternatives to the Bergeon and Horotec stuff that'll do the job but they still cost a few bob.
