    Seiko 66B Stem removal

    Hi there

I've spent the last week or so regulating my watch and it's been good fun - I've got it down to about 30 seconds a day of average wear (less if it lies face up all day)

I'd like now to remove the movement from the case so I can clean the dial a little

I need to remove the crown and stem to do this I think.

Watching some videos and reading some sites it looks like I have to press a pin and pull the crown out. Can anyone confirm the pin I have pictured here is correct?

    Cheers
    Chris

Looks that way - it just depends what position the crown needs to be in- just try to depress it gently in the closed position first then try it at the 1st click etc

Thanks I will do. Are there any particular precautions I need to consider when removing the movement/face? I'm a bit worried about the hands getting touched

    Before I start - I'm no expert
I'd remove the movement ring with a pair of plastic tweezers, I'd place a coaster over the back and flip it over, the movement and dial will now be on the coaster now cover it with a shot glass- empty of course 😉
    There ya go

Sounds about right, what could possibly go wrong

I'll tell you what went wrong once I've had a go!

    Well - success!!

Using my budget eBay case opener, mini weatherman, poly watch, drawing pin, rocket blower and cotton buds I've managed it. I removed the movement, cleaned the face (non hacking movement so had to avoid sweep of second hand!) and cleaned the inside of the glass. Put it all back together, too, then set the time - oh, the crown came off. Opened up again, pushed crown in with button down and it clicked into place.

Lovely jubbly. Thanks for the help/encouragement!

Or an endless and always slightly unsatisfied desire to improve every watch you have :)

Well done, sounds like a nice job.

Thanks, yes I'm already wondering what else I can do. The best thing would be to leave it alone or maybe buy another 'project'

    Cheers
