Probably will be the same cost. Not so much a consideration in buying new, but if you pick one up secondhand in a few years, you could get a nasty surprise
Can anyone recommend an authorised Rolex dealer in the south-east with whom I could put my name down for a new Sky dweller in steel? I've had my name down for a hulk with my local dealer since forever, and have really lost confidence in them. I don't mind paying a deposit down either.

My Rolex AD charges £470 for a submariner service.
I don't think there will be a long wait for these if any, once they have started hitting the dealers there may be a small initial rush.

Accidentally posted
£1900 seems totally ridiculous, even for a GMT movement, how much more complex can it be from a "regular" GMT?
Out of interest does anyone know the service cost of a DSSD?
That's something to bear in mind, making me think twice now, how long are you going to want to hang onto one after the honeymoon is over with that cost on the horizon, in 5 or more years time that will probably rise to what maybe £2500? A steel might not be the easiest sell, maybe a pm is a safer bet.
Still seems very expensive. As an example, this is taken from the PP site, CHF1050 is about £850 and not that much more than a "regular" movement :-
Mechanical (Level 2) 700
Automatic (Level 2) 800
Complication I (Level 3) Annual Calendar, Travel Time, moon phase, etc. 1050
Complication II (Advanced Level) Perpetual Calendar, Chronographe, Chronographe Annual Calendar 1500
Out of interest, someone shock me, how much is a service for a YM2?
I'd be very surprised if £1900 for a service is accurate.
As well as the movement you have the action of the bezel to look at and how this interacts with the movement
That may well be the case but why is the PP service price for an AC only CHF250 over a regular movement? PP aren't renowned for being inexpensive watches to service, so using that as a barometer, is should be around £1000, or so?
Methinks there's some scaremongering going on here.
Perhaps PP have more available watchmakers that can service such movements. This is a relatively small part of current Rolex complications and a new one at that, so perhaps it's a specialised job for a currently small number of technicians. Just a wild guess of course but I'd like to get a quote from the horse's mouth for the steel model in case for some reason it's less than £1900.
I might drop in to have a chat with my AD tomorrow, so I'll ask the question.
I think we'll all be interested in the response. £1900 is certainly a disproportionate amount for a service at this price-point currently, but then, with supposed ten year intervals, there's time for Rolex to acquire more watchmakers (if my assumption is right) and bring the service cost down, whilst increasing the price on the watch itself periodically.
I have requested a dial change on a 1 week old skydweller in the past as the client wanted the chocolate dial and the estimate was £2500+ with the bulk of that being a service! Asking why they explained that any intervention and adjustment would require a full service even if a day old.
Servicing by Rolex is exceptional but it costs at the higher end indeed even an accredited Rolex service Center can no longer get spares for Daytonas and only Rolex themselves will do the work so expect the Skydweller with its complications to be the same and will be what appears steep. That said it will have 5 years of trouble free international warranty (if the AD will give you the card!) so worry not just get it on and enjoy.

And if you're worried about Rolex servicing at least it's back in 4-6 weeks try dropping a 100k Richard Mille in for a service to be told come back in 6 months and bring several grand with you please

If you can afford £10600+ for a watch..........
Rolex service is like a factory (not in a good way). Factories perform standard processes well. With the terrible sales of the PM sky dweller, working on their AC is practically a one off excercise and (assuming the cost is correct) it's priced like it.
I'm sure that Patek sees many more ACs than Rolex. Economies of scale and all that.
Given that the movement uses the bezel, it's presumably safe to say that it won't be appearing in any other size case?

The Fed is wearing the black dial on Rolex instagram page - must say it has a great presence.
Nice vid here

I like it but the more I ponder I feel the batons are bland like on the Daytona and the precious metal versions with numbers have a very strong edge to them that the steel will never match

Was in my AD today and according to the "big Rolex book of prices", the current price of a service on a SkyDweller is £680.
I won't care about servicing the sky dweller once I get the SS blue dial will service if it stops it comes with 5 year warranty and don't they recommend not service for 10 years with Rolex. As I am sure I read that some were.

Tried a PM version on bracelet yesterday, after reading the concerns about size at my AD yesterday and size wise it was not to big at all. I am first on the list for a blue one and I think it will be very nice, look forward too seeing it in the flesh. Though in all fairness I did go down to collect a Deep Sea Blue. So it was not ever going to be to big.
Wow...to my eye that is seriously ugly. That saves me 10k!
Nice summary of the new models on Hodinkee:

I tried on one this weekend and it didn't feel too big, and I'm a die hard 40mm guy. I was pleasantly surprised. I had on a old GMT 2 on at the time and it wasn't that different. Strange how some watches feel bigger or smaller than their actual size.
On a separate note 10k GBP sounds great but where is that price coming from ? I haven't seen anything online for that yet. Apologies if I've missed something.

What's going to happen to the value of WG prices. 20k extra for WG is crazy.

They produce a cheap SS version for the masses and they moan about the price of a service. 1900 quid for The flagship AC movement is quite reasonable the command bezel is a joy to operate.
Don't moan to much or it will be known as the poor-mans skydweller.

Thanks, strange the Rolex site here doesn't have any prices.
