It is big, but once sized it will look right. DJ41 did nothing for me in comparison.

I think it's a little closer to the camera and in that kind of close up, the smallest distance apart gets magnified by the perspective (what term means the opposite of foreshortening?)

Even the difference in thickness between two watches on a level surface can be enough to create that effect, one thus being a couple of millimetres closer to the camera.

It's certainly much more pleasing to my eye than the DJ41 too

After seeing hundreds of photos of the fixed models, it's almost bizarre to see one telling times other than 12 past ten on the 28th of August

Can I ask the function of the red at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock in those photos? Or is it my eyes?

It's the month indicator I believe, i.e. June or December in your example. Actually it's 7 in in the photo so July.

Ah thank you, and yes I meant 7. What a great way to display month.

Each to their own but in my humble opinion the Skydweller is a bit of a dog's dinner. Would be many other watches I'd be getting first at that price point to be honest

I think it's a well thought out and innovative way to structure an annual calendar complication. It's also fairly affordable, and (going by Rolex history) one of the most robust AC movements around. However, I'd like it a lot more if it was the size of a 36mm day date and didn't have the 24 hour ring.

Odd Rolex produced this in stainless steel, but judging by this thread and the waiting lists, it was the right choice. The dial isn't a patch on the PM versions though.

There have been many complimentary comments about the new stainless steel dial, not least the removal of the numerals and their replacement by batons. It makes it look less cluttered and significantly improves it in my opinion.

You'd have to be clinically insane to pay that much. You can get a much better looking PM version for around that price...

That was the virtually unanimous opinion when these were initially released in precious metals. I'm not entirely sure why the forum has reversed that decision now they're available in steel tbh!?

Because the dial is different? If SS had the same dial as PM they would be perfect.

Is possible the forum consists entirely of independent voices, and isn't simply a vast homogenous army with a total absence of deviation from settled positions?

That and the fact that these look different on the PM models.

Moving onto "Dog's dinner" - any chance of a level of discourse above "eurgh, yuk"?

    New Skydwellers

I suppose you could all move onto the bling as it was produced first, somehow the steel will always feel like just a poor relative.

Made available to the masses, add interest free credit, everyone loves it.

Personally, it's like buying a Steinhart instead of a 116610.

  26. #476
I love the new dial too. And SS is way better for me than a PM watch. I am really looking forward to getting mine.

The BM black looks great. One of those and the blue dial will suit nicely.

I'm hoping an Everose/Steel Skydweller comes out at Basel in 2018. Would round off the range nicely then.

I put myself down for one (black dial) a while ago. But I have tried the SD43 and passed on that as it was too big for my tastes. This is a big piece too, so I am putting in a call today to cancel my slot.

imho unless your wrist is completely flat on top, the lugs on the sky dweller would be overhanging the sides of your wrist ?

looks too big as can't see much of the bracelet on the tops of your wrist from above,

may wear differently and better if it were on a strap rather than bracelet for you.

So much size anxiety around that I'm getting advice on arms that aren't mine. All the photos I've posted have just been things I've finding on Instagram, which is why they have shops logos on them etc

Its only 42mm. I have a 6.5" wrist and wore a Planet Ocean 45.5mm for 7 years. OK it was big but not ridiculously so. Frankly I'm sick of seeing people moaning about the size. You're only moaning because its a Rolex! Like I said ITS ONLY 42MM. It's like moaning about the size of a Speedmaster.....and you don't hear that very often!!!! People rave about the new 43.5mm Omega PO. Size doesn't come into it!.....but it does with the SkyDweller...because its a Rolex and Rolexes are not allowed to be more than 40mm otherwise it upsets the establishment !!

Some people have taken delivery in the U.S already.

These totally scream Rolex so if that's your thing, get your name down.

Yep my thoughts too - I think these watches are clearly targetted for a certain type of Rolex aficionado.

Welcome to the forum and i think you have hit the nail on the head.I have a 6.5 wrist and wear a 42mm Exp 11 because the sub and seadweller 40mm are too small but it does upset many people.

I have said many times if they did a 42mm Sub it would sell like hot cakes.

I have also owned an Omega Seamaster which is supposed to be 41mm but wears at least 42mm and no one complains that is too big,

The new Seadweller at 43mm is spot on for many people and i hope in the future that Rolex start doing more 42mm models.

The problem isn't the diameter, it's the height of the case and the proportions of case and bracelet.

Its just awkward and an aesthetic failure, just like the DayDate2 was.

I agree! I have a Daytona (which I find small) and a 42mm Speedy and to be honest I prefer the Speedy due to size and legibility. I long for a rose gold Rolex but in my eyes the only current options are a Rose Gold Daytona with black dial or Rolex 116655 Yatchmaster. Don't get me wrong, these are spectacular watches in their own right, but I just find them a tad small. I guess I'll just have to wait. They will release something larger in rose gold in the next 5 years I guarantee. PS Us Lancashire lads need to stick together

I own a speedmaster and this thing is way bigger. Moan moan moan. I think a 45mm watch on a 6.5 inch wrist is the picture of rediculous. To each their own.
