    Recommend me an umbrella

My old umbrella has just given up the ghost so I need a new one. I walk to and from work every day, a 6km round trip, and I live in the west of Ireland where we get about 230 days of rain a year and enough wind to power the Starship Enterprise! I'm therefore looking to buy a very good quality umbrella that will last me a long time. In terms of size etc I'm looking for something like this - https://www.fultonumbrellas.com/mens...728/typhoon-1/.

I'd love to hear any recommendations that you may have, TZ is always reliable when it comes to recommendations for quality goods.

    Cheers:)

If I lived on the west coast of Ireland I'd probably be looking at a, very large, golf umbrella. In case you miss it here's the link for the best umbrella shop in the known universe.

Mercedes brollies are very good. You should be able to blag one free with a brand new Merc, works out to be an expensive brollie though.

Wind and classic umbrellas do not mix well. Dedicated umbrellas to withstand wind resemble a B1 bomber and have a smaller and asymmetrical area that doesn't match the rain pattern crated by driving rain so your head stays dry but no more.

I use a birdiepal outdoor when I go for a walk with the dog, or in town and rain is possible. Light, very robust.
I also use a very old shepherd umbrella from the Pyrénées (wood, cotton and bronze only to avoid being thunderstruck) which is significantly bigger but is best used in no more than light winds. Plus it is also more difficult to carry around.

I have had a cracking umbrella that I purchased years ago at M & S. It has had heavy use in a lot of stormy conditions and has stood up well and is as new.

I haven't found a way to line the edge of the cloth with razor blades yet, but the tips of the ribs are connected to a cattle prod

Just checked the other thread & no mention of James Ince & Son Britains longest established umbrella maker. Well made & well priced too.
