Really? You live naked in a wood eating nuts? Everything you own and bought from a shop is also owned by someone you disapprove of.

The new series of WD has premiered in the US with Ant Anstead.
First car up was a grey import Escort Cosworth.
Ant did a pretty good job.
And oh, looks like he was wearing a Tudor Ranger 😎

Just the one, really. Multiple use of ‘bucket list’.

Ant was quite good actually. Arguably better than Mr China. I’m not a fan of that extra wing though. (And some of their aerodynamics is BS).

Exec board meeting: The biggest car show in the world with an excess of 100 million viewers?!? Sounds amazing! Tell you what, - let's alienate the star of the show and change the format with lots of fake drama and padding like all the other crappy shows at the moment.

    Just brilliant.

Ep1 was a touch jerky with lots of short glued-together scenes. Watching the times shown on Ant's watch: it was haywire.
    Ford Escort Cosworth.
It was WD, though, and with more money spent on it. Trailering the Cozzie to Utah cost a lot.
Ant clearly knows his stuff but it's his first programme so the 'magic' wasn't quite there.
Edd would never have allowed those wheels but the third wing was interesting.

I'm still not sure why Edd quit. Then again I was always surprised when he did another series as each came out. He doesn't strike me as a 9-5 worker, unlike Mike who is. Edd seems more of a thinker, but that doesn't often make much money.

I’ve already watched the whole of new series (via the delights of Kodi). As much as I used to like Mr China’s stuff and Mr Anstead bugs me occasionally, I’m afraid that ‘the king is dead. Long live the King’.

On balance, I think that I prefer Ant’s presentational style and he seems to explain and demonstrate things in a slightly clearer manner. His range of technical skills also seems to be broader than EC.

Just watched the first episode with Ant. Enjoyed it and look forward to more. He’s a good fit .

I really enjoyed it and I thought Ant was a breath of fresh air.

That is no criticism of Ed, in hindsight it seems to me Ed had lost his enthusiasm for the show or maybe Mike long ago and his last few appearances seemed strained.

Looking forward to the next episode, hopefully no spoilers (excuse the pun) in this thread.

Discovery channel Uk , the escos has got some very polarised comments online , Ant is quite good all things considered . it is very much scripted and tongue in cheek

Thanks, I've just upgraded to skyQ and my previous series links have obviously gone with my last box. Recording it now.

I won't be able to watch the new series until it appears on Quest, due to objections to paying a subscription, but still having to watch adverts, etc, etc, and the fact that I will not knowingly give Murdoch will any of my money, ever. ( recent developments may ameliorate my objections to the former...).

But I really like Ant Anstead. He's obviously really talented and engaging. I wouldn't be surprised to see Edd popping up on TG in the future.

Speaking of which, I am surprised that there's not been a TG Christmas special?

Just watched the first episode and thought it was very good. Didn’t see any signs of more fake reality TV or cost cutting that was suggested previously and thought Ant was articulate and presented his bits well

I will check this out because I really like the show but can’t stand Mike Brewer, really winds me up. I watch because EC is mostly in it so am hoping the new guy can fill his shoes (sounds like he has fairly well).

I prefer Car SOS, haven’t seen it in for a while but I much prefer the presenters and rather like that they do it for decent people rather than ‘a cheeky profit’!

Ant Anstead is a brilliant presenter - impossible to dislike and with a huge and proven knowledge and passion for cars.

He co-presented "For the Love of Cars" with Philip Glennister, and was excellent on that too.

I've not seen him on Wheeler Dealers yet, and I like Edd very much, but have no doubt Ant will be just as good or better.
So clever my foot fell off.

I was pleasantly surprised as Ed was such a integral part of the previous series, but I found Ant very good and to start the series off with a Escort Cosworth was no coincidence.

Ant is doing fine. He’s a proper replacement. I always skip the MB parts.

It might be a new series on Ch4/More4 but it is originally broadcast on (and made by) the National Geographic channel. There will be a new series (Season 6) this year some time.

Nice one. I've downloaded a few and will see how it goes, unfortunately only starts at series 1 episode 3.

Car SOS is one of my favourite things on TV, ever. Aside from the great car stuff from Fuzz, the end of most episodes manages to bring a tear to my eye.

I like fuzz from car sos but that idiot Tim Shaw almost puts me off watching it. I find him and his antics so irritating.

Indeed. An even bigger tw@t than Mike Brewer. And that’s saying something.

He’s worth preserving with for the rest of the programme. Or, he’s even better on FFWD.

I must disagree. I don’t like Tim but there is no such a thing as a bigger twat than MB.
I have managed with great efforts and tremendous will power to stop from repeatedly putting his name on the ‘people you’d like to slap’ thread because the level of unwarranted violence I would display might ruin the little credibility I may still have on this forum.

Does anyone actually like Mike Brewer?

Or does the old saying 'Never trust a used car salesman' really apply!

I met MB once and he was perfectly pleasant. Had a chat about cars in general and Mk2 Golfs in particular. Seemed to know his stuff.

I always liked Edd and was sorry to see him go from WD. Many a boring Sunday afternoon or random night shift has been spent watching re-runs of the earlier episodes. I think Edd was right to bale out when the production team shifted focus and wanted to go with a more scripted (and to my mind telegraphed) feel to the programme. Moving to the US made me lose a little interest too, as I'm not so fond of American cars (although I loved the Pontiac GTO they did).

Can't stand Tim Shaw from Car SOS, however. They did a few of my favourite cars but I was watching with gritted teeth from behind the sofa on occasions, such was the cheese-fest that he served up. Fuzz seemed like a cool guy though. Perhaps him and Edd could do a show together.

I suppose in the interests of fairness, and not just MB bashing, we had some friends over for New Year. One chap was a petrolhead, and we stumbled on to the subject of Mike and Edd. He said that he'd met Edd twice, on separate occasions in B&Q of all places, and both times Edd ignored him after he said a friendly hello. My friend isn't exactly an offensive type of chap.

Just watched the Escort Cosworth episode. Really enjoyed the turbo rebuild part. Thought the finish of the white alloys was pretty poor. The addition of the third wing just ruined it!

Just watched a repeat of Car SOS. They did a superb job of that AC Aceca. Must be worth £100k now.
