    50th birthday present ideas please

My fiftieth looms. I don't want a watch but my parents and wife are keen to buy me something nice and I'm really stuck for ideas. There is really very little I need and the house is already full enough of clutter.

Ideas in the range £50 to about £500 please.

    Thanks.

Any craft you've ever fancied a go at? There are all sorts of long weekend courses around. I've done one on green wood working and another building a canoe. I kid you not, they were brilliant fun and great to have made something.

Plenty of "experiences" in that sort of price range, I've done quite a few as my wife says I'm difficult to buy for (probably true, if I want something I tend to buy it there and then rather than wait for a birthday/Christmas).

Mine have been mostly car based (my main interest other than watches) but one year I got a helicopter flying lesson which I can thoroughly recommend. I rock up at the lesson, confident that I'm the master of all things with an internal combustion engine and this is going to be a piece of cake. Not so. Let me tell you, helicopters are a bugger to fly, although I did a full hour and managed to hover the aircraft at the end of it. The instructor said "if you can do that you can fly one of these" but it would definitely take a lot more than a hour to learn! I have to admit I was so knackered at the end of it (from sheer concentration rather than physical effort) that I had to get my mate, who'd come along to spectate, to drive us home afterwards.

    Cheers,

    Plug

Gym membership or a Concept 2 rowing machine.

A bottle of Creed, some nice sun glasses or a decent jacket would be my top present choices.

My wife hired a VW camper for me and we went to Northumberland for a few days.

Quite an experience and a holiday that will not be forgotten!

Helped me make the decision not to buy one!

A really nice wallet made me very happy recently as, obviously, it's used all the time
