    Spotify and IPhone battery drain

    Hi
I listen to Spotify all day long through headphones. On Wednesday I started to get massive battery drain and my phone got really hot - iPhone 7

Went to apple and they've said it's Spotify and the phone is fine. Done some googling and it looks like Spotify is the culprit after an update.

    Anyone else had an issue.

Looks like I'm going to have to switch

I've experienced this on my commute - I'm sure it'll be addressed pretty quickly, they bang out updates all the time.
Maybe leave a review on the AppStore detailing the issue?

A couple of weeks ago, I was on a day trip to London. My iPhone 7 wasn't running Spotify but I ran out of battery by 1pm and the phone felt quite hot. I did leave the house at 5.30am but certainly wasn't using my phone excessively. The funny thing is, it's been fine since.

If it happens again, I'm going to make a Genius Bar appointment.

After a bit of reading it seems it's happening even if you have Spotify open in the background not playing music in some cases

Why would the Spotify app drain the battery? Does everyone listen online?

Seems to be fine on my 6s but I download and then switch offline. I'll still avoid the update though until there's more info.

Are you sure it's linked to Spotify ? I don't have this issue at all

The same thing is happening on my ipod touch. I'm running the latest OS and on a 1 hr flight yesterday, I lost @40% of my battery using plugged in headphones.

I'm going to monitor it today because I've got another 1 hr flight.

You can check what app is using the most battery. Recently, after an app update, I found that Citymapper must have been doing background checks constantly and hosing battery. I had to switch off background updates to stop the drain occurring.

    Definitely Spotify.
I have turned off background updates and see how it goes today

    Update

At home yesterday attached to wifi I left the iPhone playing through headphones for a few hours and all good
Got to work and after 15 mins started to overheat. I was playing off line.

By chance I turned off the wifi and now all good and back to normal.
    Very strange

Usually when that happens my iPhone 7+ is downloading a load of music. Sometimes I set my Spotify to offline and it solves the majority of issues.

Just that there's an update available - who knows what it does, their changelog descriptions are always the same (they're not alone in doing that but it's bloody annoying)
