I am sure we will see one or two in the next hour or so. My local AD has not received any yet so looking forward to seeing some real shots
Could we just identify what you like about it?
Its 43mm and has red writing on it!
So if having a DSSD didn’t do it for you and you haven’t ever considered having the dial of a Submariner over printed Red then maybe you just want it to be the cool kid or because you think / will make a few quid.

I suspect today is going to be filled with people wanting what they can't have, this will be seen as the latest and greatest for some time.
The grey dealers will be loving it too.
More sales is more sales,is more profit.
Paint it how you like but a new Rolex release like this is more money in the cash register.
A pic of one that's been bought on Pistonheads, but it's huge on the guys wrist. I wonder if these will filter back into the 2nd hand market as folks realise that they are too big for them...?

The matt look of the dial doesn’t bode well with the gloss of the ceramic bezel, albeit the lights make it worse in those images

That image makes the BLNR look tiny.
Wow!!! It's big (not my pic):
BLNR looks perfect for that wrist.
You will need a decent size wrist for these - it's a chunky piece that does not look that well proportioned to my eye.
The perspectives in some of these shots are very strange. It looks way bigger than the BLNR in that pic. But have a look at some of the pics in this 'collection day' thread -
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=535702
- and it looks only slightly bigger than the BLNR, and considerably thinner (as it certainly had to be) than the DSSD. We really do need some caliper measurements soon ...
BLNR looks like a baby in that picture
Maybe its just that picture but the bezel looks huge and all in a bit clumsy. If I were fat I'd prefer the D-Blue, it's a bit more special I think.
Hmmm, I will reserve my judgement until I see it in metal. But so far I am in camp of preferring the DSSD because it doesn't look much bigger, but it has the insane WR. The new one has same WR specs as the 16660 from 35 years ago.
^
Which still exceeds — by over two times — the deepest dive in history. The WR spec becomes completely meaningless by that point.
Whee!!!!
Just had the call to go and get my SD 50th!
Deposit paid over phone.
Popped in to Goldsmiths in Reading this morning on the off chance that theirs hadn't been collected just to see what it is like size wise in the flesh. I was proudly informed that there is a 10 year waiting list at the earliest opportunity.... good job I'm down to hopefully get one before the end of the year somewhere else!
I don't quite get why they are so quick to proudly announce the length of the waiting list at every opportunity, it's not them that enforce this policy and they are surely the ones losing out financially?!

Based on them getting around 10 a year and 100 people asking for one. That's the same 100 people that have there names down at every AD and most flake or faff about or have got one elsewhere by then anyway. I think there's enough threads and I certainly have enough knowledge to tell you without doubt that waiting lists are not worth the paper they are not written on.

I just don't see the point - if you want a big, chunky diver then get a DSSD.
I picked mine up earlier today.
Here are some photos which show the size difference - it is not as big as some of the others photos would appear to suggest.
Comparision to other seadwellers
from left to right 16800 sub, 1665 DRSD, 16600SD,SD4000, SD 43 and Deepsea.
Wristshot of SD43.
Wristshot of Deepsea.
Wristshot of SD4K
Wristshot of 16600SD
Thickness comparision Deepsea, SD43 and SD4K
As you can see the SD43 is more or less the same thickness as the SD4K
In summary the SD43 wears much closer to the SD4K rather than the Deepsea.

Good job Chris and smashing comparison.
So is it the new favourite, or will that always be the DRSD?
Thanks Chris - any chance you could give the lug-lug size for the SD50 / SD43 - from those pictures it does seem to sit between the DeepSea and SD4K - as expected. The SD 43 / 50 seems to have a more bulbous case back compared to the SD4K - could be just camera angles.
Anyway - looks good on you Chris!
Martyn
Measurements taken with a ruler not calipers.
Lug to lug width of SD43 is 48/49mm - Lug to lug of SD4k 46mm
Thickness SD43 15mm excluding cyclops - Thickness SD4K 15mm They are the same thickness excluding cyclops
Thanks for posting those pics Chris. The difference in thickness beween the DSSD and SD43 is quite noticeable so I can see that being a key differentiator, I just can't shake off the feeling that the whole design is a complete hodgepodge, which is most unlike Rolex.
Chris, just out of interest what AD did you get it from and did they make you take off the stickers? Also did you get to keep the warranty cards etc? Just wondered about the previous post that mentioned certain AD's instructions to keep them.
Well done Chris, nice collection there. Funny how when the ceramic inserts came in everyone went crazy for them, but looking at your watches obviously the DRSD sticks out like a sore thumb, but my second favourite in the line up is the 16600 with the metal insert, that is a timeless classic and becoming more appreciated these days.
How does the red writing on the SD43 compare to the red writing on the DRSD?
Really helpful post - thanks Chris. All goes to show how photographs can be deceptive; your post gives I suspect a much better all round idea than some others I have seen today. Still looks a bit of a beast, but given different images circulating will be keeping an open mind until I have actually seen/handled one. Congratulations on the new acquisition (and a great collection!).
Great pics Chris, thanks for sharing. Good to know that isn't as thick as the DSSD.
Thanks Chris, that's interesting.
How do you choose which to wear on any given day? Nice problem to have.......

You might want to blur the serial no. or at least cut it out the picture (as he asked about the red writing)
