    Home insurance for +£15k piece

My M&S policy has been great, but it only goes up to £15k and they wont cover me for a new piece, likewise John Lewis specialist insurance wont cover me as I rent ???? Can anyone recommend an alternate I see TH March gets good reviews for listing the watch seperately but again thats a non starter as it will void my home insurance with M&S

    Any ideas?

A lot of people have recommended Hiscox to me in the past on TZ, but it's not cheap. I ran into the same issues at one point and found it was easier to just live without the watches :-)

This £15k stumbling block is as good a reason as any for me to forget about consolidating my collection, for now at least.

I came across same problem when I got a Rose gold ceramic daytona recently, so I went with hiscox not cheap at £950 with £500 access but fantastic cover £75k in jewellery and unlimited cover in the house. No need for valuations etc... only the Daytona needs to be in a safe if not on my wrist. Safe no special requirements I cancelled the policy I had and went with hiscox.

m and s quoted me £870 for 50k in jewellery but with them you need to have valuations. But I tried a stand alone policy with th march was £1000 for the Daytona!!

Try AXA you can adjust the cover to suit your needs. Not sure of the limits but it's worth a look.

Sorry to bump this but any other recommendations then Hiscox?

Picked up my ROO and added it to my current insurance but the renewal premium is very high so wanted to compare.

Hiscox online quotation came through at a great price but I've since been delinced on the basis having a flood which appears they do not accept! I queried this as it was just a blocked sewage drain from two houses down which backed up and leaked into the second garage (Lower then house and not connected) and not a physical flood as such but they wouldn't budge!

I use Sterling Insurance. Worth giving a ring for a quote. I have about £50k of watches under cover with them.

I have had contents cover with Santander and now with Saga (perk of being an old git). For watches below £10k each there doesn't seem to be any conditions, but when I had my DRSD and Aquanaut insured it was a condition of the policy that I either wore the watch, had it in the same room as me or kept it locked up in a safe. In other words, if you left it lying around and it got nicked then you weren't covered.

But they are happy to cover the watches for a small increase on the premium.

Re: your multi-??? After "I rent"

I suspect it is due to someone else (landlord for example) having a key to your house.

That increases the risk, I'm afraid

Well turns out my current insurer listed the claim back in 2014 as river flooding! But I have to speak to a department which is now closed.

No wonder Hiscox came back to me saying I failed to disclose a flood (I had put sewage leak from blocked drain)

Can't imagine calling Hiscox back is going to change things and not even sure my current insurer can amend the way the claim was recorded.

Had our renewal in from Directline. Hiscox quote was exactly double.

Get them to alter it, or threaten the ombudsman and cite tangible losses - I assume that every policy since 2014 has been loaded because of their ineptitude?

I'm still with the same company it had crept up but not by much actually put it down to just making the claim, the latest renewal can in at a 40% increase had me looking elsewhere.

When I did this for my new piece I shopped around and loads of places provide adequate cover but once you have a £15k+++ piece there are very few and so Hiscox were the ones for me - hope you get sorted

I suppose it is a matter of your outlook on the world, but is insurance for 'toys' really worthwhile? Most people go through life without experiencing any thefts or fires. The statistics show that, the fear of crime is exaggerated. Unless you live in an , err, 'lively' area, robberies and break-ins are far rarer than people think. I take the view that if I lose stuff, so be it. It's just stuff.
But the overwhelming majority do not get burgled or lose stuff. I rather think I am in a minority in this view.

NFU - not the cheapest but you deal with real people at a local office, are always interested in what watch Ive bought and what Ive sold and never any issue with limits but if you have enough in the way of value will insist on a safe (your cost) and security audit (their cost). Also never had an issue withj payouts including a collapsed wall at my holiday place in the Dales due to an earth quake and a vary badly wrecked Linn Sondek that I fell onto after tripping over!

I've just renewed with high worth insurance cover home and away give them a try
I also went over m&s single item limit they just refused to quote

Thanks guys I'm still looking into this, Hiscox wouldn't budge so I'm struggling to find one which will allow a total of 50-60k watches with a single item max of 26k

Plenty of companies have either 10/15k single item limits or 40k total limits which I exceed both so anyone in a similar position and not using Hiscox please let me know who you use.

    Thanks in advance

They have been one of the only ones to quote but came back with a load of terms based on the fact they see the house as a flood risk (see above) and even after sending over proof there's no risk of river flooding they wouldn't revise the quote which is ridiculously high!

I get what you are saying and tbh I have been a bit underinsured in the past as I have a safe, alarm etc. and don't wear expensive watches to "lively" places. I do usually try to keep the insurance about right when I renew as whilst losing one of them wouldn't be the end of the world I would rather I could replace it on insurance and of course if there was a fire etc. I could lose a lot of "toys" which is why I have my house insured !
