No the perfect issued watch. Nor a watch with fixed bars so that it only can be worn on a NATO.
I'm not afraid of a posh watch on a NATO -
Or something expensive.
But I'm happy with something more pocket-friendly.
Even something that didn't originally come on a NATO...
Thing is, I'm looking to cut down on the number of watches I own, and I want something which I can wear on a NATO! So, I'm in the peculiar position of having the straps, looking for the watch to fit!
So, suggestions? Which is the watch that looks best on a NATO?

Made me look, made me stare -
It's lovely, but it would have to be proper waterproof to survive my two kids!
That looks good on a NATO - a good suggestion. The PRS-5 is a nice suggestion - and I'm missing a chrono at the moment.
The Gruffalo has been a good prop for watch photos! All the Rolex suggestions makes me want to get out my Explorer II and one of Eddie's 20mm NATOs. Will check in on this thread tomorrow, and see where we are!
I find the PRS 5 wears far too high on a Nato as its already too thick in design. Also if you have the transparent back (and why wouldn't you, it's the best feature), then it's obscured by a Nato. I agree though that it is well suited to the style and so now I wear it on one of Eddie's double thickness Nato style two piece straps. The style of the metal deployant matches the case exactly.
Just picked up a load of Eddies natos for this one, suits.
I have a notion that the 36mm IWC Pilot would look absolutely perfect on an admiralty grey Phoenix NATO with polished hardware.
Explorer 36mm and PRS-29B for me
The G10 is a fairly obvious option.
I occasionally wear the 2254.50 on a NATO, but not often to be honest.
Ubiquitous SKX007
But this is the only watch that I always wear on a NATO.
I understand your concerns re WR but a 5513 was made for a NATO strap.
Some philistines may consider putting them on a different strap but this IMO is a match made in heaven.

Every watch looks good on a NATO in a photo taken straight-on. But in reality I find most watches sit uncomfortably high and look very odd viewed from the side. The U1 is a good example, as is (stands by to be flamed!) every Rolex as it exposes the ugly unfinished (and showing scuff marks from the bracelet even on a brand new watch) area between the lugs. Not my cup of tea I'm afraid, a bit too 'man at Millets' for me I'm afraid. If you must though, I find the new Seiko turtles look OK

Can I include Zulu straps in "NATO" ? All my inexpensive divers are on either a Zulu or NATO, and I love the look of this:
Couldn't make the Zulu work on the Explorer 2 though, as it was too cramped between case and bars

There's lots that suit a Nato.....
F.T.F.A.
Most Damaskos look great on a NATO.
My personal favourite is a DC66 - and there is a pic on here somewhere I posted years ago, of mine on one of Eddie's Grey ones.
(On my mobile so can't find it)
Lots of good suggestions in the thread, thank you. I think the quintessential NATO watch is somewhere in the middle of affordable and military-styled.
Like the idea of a PP on a NATO, but why does the one in jedly1's picture have the word email at the bottom of the dial?
As it's an enamel dial .
Though I did try turning the bezel on the off chance once or twice

I think it's a fairly cheap no-name NATO, I'm afraid! It had been through the wash a few times, which had faded it a little, and I think I sold it with the Sinn. Sorry I've not more help for you!
Loving the black Damasko (DA46?), and nice to see the better value end of the spectrum represented so well - the Seikos, the Citizens, and (especially) the Precista/Smiths from our host.
I wear most of my watches on a NATO but for me the perfect NATO watch is this.
With a Tudor Submariner coming a close 2nd

Perfect is expensive...
Not my pic, nor my watch unfortunately...
14060 for me.
Or a DJ!

Due to the raised height and my quite small wrists then the only ones that really work for me are thin watches
Eddies PRS40 which is of course a NATO specific watch is really thin in relation to its lug to lug size and sits just right for me
My quartz Speedmaster at 11mm also sits nicely but style wise I feel suits a strap better
I like the concept of NATO's but am usually dissatisfied with the actuality. Perlon is a far better option IMO however that's another subject
Had my IWC mk XII on a NATO and it looked fabulous. Will try to find a photo.

Here's the two piece double thickness Nato on the PRS 5 which is a good solution to the watch wearing too high.
Has to be this for me....
With this a close second.....
And third is...

Zuludiver G10 is my favourite, with satin hardware.
Love, love, love the Black Bay Bronze on the NATO it comes with.
