Cartier aside, because it's such an iconic design, I don't like them at all.

I am quite partial to a square cased watch, just find them appealing, a bit different. Came across this Orient, I really like it, what is general opinion and what other different ones do you have. Would love a JLC reverso or a Cartier tank and the like, show me some more moderatly priced examples please.

I picked up my 2nd "square" watch actually. A 1972 Seiko certified chronometer and it's really nice. My first square piece is a Citizen Crystron quartz, also quite different too.
I'm not terribly keen on that Orient Star if I'm honest.
When my numbers come up I'll be thinking about achieving one of these...
Personally, I'm smitten by the Nomos Tetra Neomatiks:
These can usually be had for around 2500€, but in some recet sales by Jura, for example, even 1900-2000€ has not been uncalled for. For the design and the awesome movement, the price is really great imo. If only it were a bit smaller, as the 33mm is surprisingly large on a square watch with long lugs...
Another great buy is a Longines heritage:
The date window is not a perfect fit, but otherwise, it's a nice design and I would love to own one.

I know you said cheap, but this is rather lovely.
Sorry the link didn't work as expected - it's the Cartier Driver I was looking at.
The Reverso is the only one that works for me, and only as a plain-as-possible two-hander like the Classique.
A trio of Bulovas...
When the hands of a watch rotate in a perfect circle it offends my OCD to put them inside a square or rectangular case.
Also, square crystals are notoriously difficult to seal to a high degree of water resistance I believe, so from an engineering aspect the answer remains "No"
