    First Rolex - new arrival

I have been mulling over buying a Rolex for some time now, so finally bought a 14060m no date Sub.

I found a nice, unpolished piece from a seller in France using some Euro I picked up at a decent rate. It has the random serial number which I believe it is a one of the last ones released - apparently with the blue parachrom main spring (whatever that does).

I love the understated elegance and clean/classic look of the watch. It also feels lighter than most and is very comfortable.

    very pleased with it!

Agreed. I was next to a bloke today with a ceramic bezel sub and I just didn't like it at all.

Congrats on your first Rolex :)

Just put a leather strap on it. Lugholes make swapping bracelet to strap very easy...

Each to theor own but it's bracelet or nato for me. One of Eddie's natos would be perfect.

It's the hairspring that is parachrom.
Parachrom is a material Rolex developed that is very stable in normal temperature ranges and is also far more shock resistant than normal hairsprings. Just means a more accurate watch.

There is simply no getting away from the fact that the original Sub design is a work of genius.
Elegant but not effete, it is the right size and shape for most human-sized people, and looks just, well, right.
    Well done - good choice

The Sub is one of those "often imitated but never equalled" watches. There are so many that pay homage, but none work quite so flawlessly as the original.

Sure - I paid Eur 5,700. I found the watch on Chrono 24 but bought a different watch from the sellers website. Payment was by bank transfer after i did my homework on the seller.

The reasons I ask is I am about the pull the trigger for £6k on a nos no date Sub. It is from chrono 24. Not sure to use their check out of save £300 and use the company website instead.

Why pay £6k for a NOS one when you can get a good one for under £4K. If you're going to wear it (and you should) then buying NOS is just wasting money IMHO.

    Very nice.

I picked up a 14060 last week. ive had a few homages and have often said the real thing isn't worth it. I'm happy to admit I was wrong.

Check chrono 24 and show me one like new with no polishing at all for under 4K and I'll buy it. Totally mint with a guarantee no metal has left the lugs even during a light polish.

This is one watch I will not flip so the extra is well worth it so I am in no doubt as to what I am getting. I want any marks to be my marks.

I see no point in paying a higher price for NOS and then immediately reducing its value by wearing it. I would rather pay less for a used one in good condition.

You clearly look at things differently and I don't have a problem with that, it's your money and your decision. Clearly there are many people who share your view, as there are many who share mine.

I trust you'll enjoy your new watch, they are (IMO) much nicer than the NDc.

Pay a bit less and get a used one, frankly I don't care. I want nos and will pay a slight premium for a watch I will wear for decades I hope. It will work out at about twenty quid a year over that time.

It was a major piss off when i got my tudor. Because i didn't want to scratch it i had to take it to a jeweller to change to a nato. Holes please Geneve.

The problem with buying the NOS at a price premium is 'new car syndrome'. It's no longer new once you've worn it for a few weeks. NOS is fine if you want a watch to go in a collection and be worn very sparingly, I can see the appeal, but for something 'wearable' I`d be looking for a really nice second-hand version with no dings or significant marks. Such a watch could be worn regularly and could always be refinished to 'as new' condition in the future.

Basically, you're paying a heftly premium for NOS, it's debatable whether it's worth it. In 20 years time the NOS will be worth far more provided it's still NOS and unworn.....and therein lies the dilemma!

Sometimes wish I`d kept mine, it's the nicest modern Sub of the lot. Just wish the bracelet had fit better, that's the reason mine went.

I picked up this lovely A series 14060 from chrono24 last week, from a trusted seller in Hamburg, very happy with it and it's definitely a keeper. No regrets buying outside of the UK, saved an absolute packet 😉
