    Three watches for five K

I'm thinking about reducing my current stock of 6 watches down to just 3 so I've been following this recent Worn & Wound series with interest:

    http://wornandwound.com/three-watch-...0-ilyas-picks/

The most recent selection has been chosen by our own MMC:

    http://wornandwound.com/three-watch-...0-marks-picks/

They've made some great choices that have got me thinking my current favourite three are perhaps too similar. They're all 37-38mm with subtle sunburst dials and a bit dressy.

Starting with the simply stunning SBGR095:

Then the Grand Seiko SBGV011 quartz:

And finally the tough as nails but still very classy Sinn 556i anniversary edition:

So which three would you choose?

Let's play this 'worn & wound' rules and set a 5K cap on the budget (that's post-Brexit pounds sterling please).

Harder than I thought. My initial reaction was Seamaster, Speedmaster and then a Seiko diver but the combined rrp's of the Omega's took me over budget.

So my amended list is Seamaster, Seiko MM300 and a Padi Turtle.

Why do folks reduce collections? 6 watches is hardly excessive unless you need to get the money out of them.

Reducing the collection is almost a badge of honour to some; unless you've really fallen out with a watch (or you want the money out) I wouldn't do it.

6 watches seems a sensible number to me.

Good question. Not really a badge of honour, more of a wish to be frugal and only own three watches that I wear a lot. Thinking about it, I'm not really comfortable having more than this amount tied up in watches, much as I love them.

Having said that, last year I let go of a vintage watch that I miss and which will be hard to replace, so maybe I should have leant my lesson!

I think everyone has a number they're comfortable with Paul. Personally, I tend to fluctuate between 8 - 12.

Well, maybe we could allow vintage/second hand prices, just to make it easier.

    Hmmm
I've got 6, but 4 of them have a combined purchase price of less than £500, and they're cool. I only have 2 luxury watches, going to 3 shortly. That doesn't seem excessive.

That answer to the question is a Speedmaster, Seamaster 300m and Amphibia, but I think that is about £200 over at realistic prices

In my current frame of mind I would go something like

    Omega Speedmaster X-33
    Rolex Air King
    Omega Pie Pan vintage

However as I am too tight to spend 5K on watches then its pure conjecture

I am in the process if assembling my latest collection but have a cap of £2K for the whole lot so none of the above will be in there!

My 'Plan B' probably provides more variety:

That looks like a very good plan B

Is that a satin finish RN Diver?

Well spotted, although that's not my photo.

    I have the polished/brushed CWC.

Very content with my favourite three and can't think what I'd change.

Of course there's the obligatory atomic G-Shock. But that's the swimming/DIY watch so doesn't count.

    3.5 watches?

Well buying a new one would leave a considerable dent in your £5K!

Fun topic. Out of the watches I own, I'd pick The Citizen Chronomaster CT57-0952 for an all-purpose, dressy-ish watch. Used, one can get it at around 1300-1500€. Then, I'd pick one Nomos Neomatik for a fun, dressy all-around watch, usable with both a suit and jeans. A Minimatik or a Metro Neomatik, perhaps, for around 2000€ slightly used. With the 1500€ left, I'd turn my eyes to some vintage goodness. A 60's stainless steel Omega Constellation, a Grand Seiko 44GS, or perhaps a gold Longines from the same era would be great to round up the collection.
