    Post RIP Peter Skellern

The forum cynics have more or less put me off making RIP posts, but I am truly saddened to learn that Peter Skellern died on Friday of brain cancer, he was 69.

I still regularly play a couple of his albums, especially the one where he worked with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

Just before his death he was ordained as a minister, so perhaps he is now in a better place.

    RIP Peter.

Sad. Didn't know he'd gone. I have a couple of his albums on vinyl. I shall spin one now.

Vastly under rated in period, possibly because of the sentimental themes and the brass. Likewise got several of his LPs. His 'Where do we go from here?' around 1980 had me in tears as we were having to move 'down south' and Mrs g giving up her business.

His track 'Every home should have one', from which I have quoted previously:

My brother knows a man in Rawtenstall
Who only does it in the hall
He doesn't need a friend, he doesn't need advice
He only needs a woman who can do it twice

is indicative of his subversive side.

He also played in Peter Tinniswood's 'Uncle Mort's North Country' on BBC Radio 4.

    Sadly missed.

    Unhappy Sad loss

His music was out of step with the times, but often beautiful and always moving.

Of course his best known classic is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhUzxWaQOuQ

R.I.P. Peter - you will be remembered.
